The United Arab Emirates is experiencing a rising burden of non-communicable diseases, particularly metabolic syndrome (MetS), driven by rapid urbanization and lifestyle changes. In Dubai's diverse population, where expatriates constitute 85% of residents, understanding perspectives on physical activity (PA) is essential for effective prevention strategies. This qualitative study explored stakeholder experiences and views on PA as a preventive measure for MetS.

Background: The optimal treatment strategy in early psoriatic arthritis remains unknown. We aimed to assess whether the combination of methotrexate and golimumab plus corticosteroids is superior to methotrexate plus corticosteroids in reducing disease activity in early, untreated psoriatic arthritis.
Methods: We did a double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled, parallel-group, single-centre study in adults with treatment-naïve active psoriatic arthritis.

Aim: The aim of this discussion paper is to explore whether recontextualisation theory deepens our understanding of learning across multiple sites when introducing simulation-based education (SBE) into nurse education.
Background: The requirement for students to learn in clinical placements remains an aspiration as well as a regulatory requirement internationally. Yet, the increasing complexity of healthcare and the numbers of vacancies in the healthcare workforce globally have led to poor learning environments.

This study explores how digitalization moderates the link between renewable energy consumption and carbon emissions within global value chains across 31 emerging economies from 2001 to 2022. Employing a robust panel data approach, the research utilizes advanced econometric techniques such as fixed and random effects models with Driscoll and Kraay standard errors, and feasible generalized least squares (FGLS) estimators to account for cross-sectional dependence, heteroscedasticity, and autocorrelation. Our findings reveal that renewable energy consumption significantly lowers carbon emissions in global value chains, emphasizing its environmental benefits.

Capacitive sensors are platforms that enable label-free, real-time detection at low non-perturbing voltages. These sensors do not rely on Faradaic processes, thereby eliminating the need for redox-active species and simplifying system integration for point-of-care diagnostics. However, their sensitivity in high-ionic-strength solutions, such as bodily fluids, is limited due to a reduced Debye length and non-specific interactions.

Traumatic injuries remain a leading cause of preventable death globally, and continue to burden global healthcare services, particularly in low-resource settings. Mobile phone-based community injury response and coordination (mCIRC) systems represent a promising solution in facilitating rapid identification of injured persons, and coordinating a community-led response as an alternative or adjunct to a formal emergency service. mCIRC systems may use technologies such as geolocation and push notifications to mobilize trained responders in the vicinity of the incident, ensuring timely intervention before professional medical services arrive.

This paper provides an overview of key concepts in evolutionary psychiatry, summarising major evolutionary explanations for mental illness and highlighting the potential of these perspectives to enhance assessment, diagnosis, explanation to the patient, treatment and prevention strategies. Expanding beyond conventional evolutionary approaches, we explore environmental influences on mental health and illness, emphasising the significant areas of convergence between evolutionary and environmental viewpoints. We then propose an integrated framework that combines insights from both perspectives, offering general principles for improving mental health outcomes at both individual and population levels.

The lifestyle and athletic demands of a professional or elite amateur golfer are both physically and mentally challenging. Players need to withstand large forces during the swing, frequently travel between time zones, and often cycle through a variety of training and competition environments for large portions of the competitive season. Thus, with numerous factors contributing to physical and cognitive stress, optimising recovery for golfers is paramount.

GLP-1 receptor agonists ((GLP-1 RAs) are currently receiving a lot of attention because of their impact in diabetes, weight loss and other areas. While GLP-1 RAs in injectable form are highly efficacious, further work is required to develop oral versions which can deliver these peptides efficiently without requiring use of excessively high doses. This paper describes the ability of an oral peptide delivery formulation, Axcess™, to enhance uptake of GLP-1 receptor agonists via the intestine, resulting in changes in insulin and glucose blood levels indicative of biopotencies of 9% for exendin-4 and 14.

Ureteric small bowel fistulas are rare entities, with limited reports in the literature. These pathological connections between the ureter and small bowel can lead to recurrent upper urinary tract infections and pose significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. The primary cause of ureteric small bowel fistula formation is iatrogenic intervention, such as percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) or abdominal surgery involving tissue resection.

Lung cancer remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths worldwide, primarily due to late-stage detection. Early diagnosis significantly improves survival rates, yet current screening methods face limitations in cost, accessibility, and predictive accuracy. This study leverages the comprehensive data from Taiwan's National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) to develop a predictive model for early lung cancer detection.

Brugada Syndrome (BrS) is an inherited cardiac ion channelopathy associated with an elevated risk of sudden cardiac death, particularly due to ventricular arrhythmias in structurally normal hearts. Affecting approximately 1 in 2,000 individuals, BrS is most prevalent among middle-aged males of Asian descent. Although diagnosis is based on the presence of a Type 1 electrocardiographic (ECG) pattern, either spontaneous or induced, accurately stratifying risk in asymptomatic and borderline patients remains a major clinical challenge.
