Recent evidence suggests a possible association with Eustachian Tube Dysfunction (ETD). However, the potential effects of both surgical and non-surgical therapeutic strategies on ET function remain poorly explored in the current literature.

Estimated fracture risk in osteopenic patients with primary hyperparathyroidism.

Background: While osteoporosis in primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is widely studied, PHPT patients with osteopenia remain less characterized. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence, biochemical features, and estimated fracture risk of osteopenic PHPT patients in a real-life cohort.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed a consecutive series of PHPT patients with available densitometric data at three sites.

The first complete plastid genome of the critically endangered species Valeriana trinervis was sequenced, assembled and compared with other published Valeriana plastomes. In this study, we assembled the plastid genome of the critically endangered, endemic species Valeriana trinervis (= Centranthus trinervis) and compare it with all published plastomes of Valeriana. We found not only differences in the inverted repeats boundaries, in the type and abundance of repeats, but also similarities in codon usage and microsatellite numbers.

Global challenges in diabetes research and care: which way forward? An appraisal from the EASD Global Council.

This review article, developed by the EASD Global Council, addresses the growing global challenges in diabetes research and care, highlighting the rising prevalence of diabetes, the increasing complexity of its management and the need for a coordinated international response. With regard to research, disparities in funding and infrastructure between high-income countries and low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) are discussed. The under-representation of LMIC populations in clinical trials, challenges in conducting large-scale research projects, and the ethical and legal complexities of artificial intelligence integration are also considered as specific issues.

Impact of pad wetness on health-related quality of life after radical cystectomy and orthotopic neobladder.

Purpose: We aimed to evaluate the impact of day- and night-time pad wetness on 2yrs-QoL after Radical Cystectomy (RC) with Orthotopic Neobladder (ON) from a Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) aimed at comparing open RC (ORC) and Robot-Assisted RC (RARC) with intracorporeal (i) ON.

Methods: Between January 2018 and September 2020, 116 patients were enrolled. Data from self-assessed questionnaires (EORTC-QLQ-C30 and QLQ-BLM30) were collected.

Predictors of change in sleep disturbance in Canadian long-term care facilities: a longitudinal analysis based on interRAI assessments.

Purpose: Sleep disturbance is prevalent in long-term care facilities (LTCFs), yet there is limited understanding of individual factors predicting changes in sleep within these populations. Our objective was to determine predictors of sleep disturbance in LTCFs and investigate variation in prevalence across facilities in two Canadian provinces-New Brunswick and Saskatchewan.

Method: This retrospective longitudinal cohort study used interRAI comprehensive health assessment data from 2016 to 2021, encompassing 21,394 older adults aged ≥ 65 years across 228 LTCFs.

VNS treatment in super-refractory status epilepticus: report of two cases and systematic review of literature.

Hypoglycaemia in Older Adults with Diabetes: Pathophysiology, Prevention, and Personalized Care in an Aging Population.

Managing diabetes in older adults requires balancing long-term glycaemic control with the prevention of hypoglycaemia, to which this population is particularly vulnerable owing to frailty, multimorbidity and cognitive decline. Guidelines recommend individualized glucose targets for older adults, particularly those with multimorbidity or increased hypoglycaemia risk. For individuals with frailty or cognitive impairment, relaxed HbA1c targets are often appropriate to reduce the risk of adverse events.

CT-Based Radiomics Models with External Validation for Prediction of Recurrence and Disease-Specific Mortality After Radical Surgery of Colorectal Liver Metastases.

Purpose: To build computed tomography (CT)-based radiomics models, with independent external validation, to predict recurrence and disease-specific mortality in patients with colorectal liver metastases (CRLM) who underwent liver resection.

Methods: 113 patients were included in this retrospective study: the internal training cohort comprised 66 patients, while the external validation cohort comprised 47. All patients underwent a CT study before surgery.

Clinical comparison of two surgical techniques in obtaining complete root coverage of single RT1 gingival recessions.

Objectives: This study aimed to compare the efficacy of the full-thickness palatal graft technique (FTPGT) and the coronally advanced flap with subepithelial connective tissue graft (CAF + SCTG) in achieving complete root coverage (CRC) in single gingival recessions (GR).

Methods: Forty healthy patients with a single RT1 GR were randomized into two groups: 20 treated with CAF + SCTG and 20 with FTPGT. Baseline and 12-month measurements of GR, keratinized tissue width (KTW), probing depth (PD), clinical attachment level (CAL), and gingival thickness (GT) were recorded.

Unlabelled: REMS-BMD by radiofrequency echographic multispectrometry is primarily determined by a patient's BMI, age, and sex. Only about 2.8% of the changes in femoral neck REMS-BMD can be attributed to replacement of the total hip with metal implants.

Use of progestin-only drospirenone-based pills in hyperandrogenic women with polycystic ovary syndrome.

Purpose: Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine-metabolic disorder affecting about 10% of reproductive-age women. Characterized by hyperandrogenism and ovulatory dysfunction, PCOS often involves metabolic features due to insulin resistance. Traditional treatment with combined oral contraceptive pills (COCP) effectively manages hyperandrogenism and menstrual irregularities.

Impact of diabetes on outcomes of patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction and multivessel coronary artery disease undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention.

Background: Diabetic patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) are at an increased risk of cardiovascular events as compared to non-diabetic patients. This analysis investigated outcomes of diabetic patients presenting with multivessel disease (MVD) and STEMI in a contemporary trial and the relevance of an immediate versus staged multivessel PCI strategy in this high-risk population.

Methods: Patients enrolled in the MULTISTARS AMI trial were stratified according to the presence/absence of diabetes.

Methods: During the 46 National Congress, 240 physicians affiliated with AISD were surveyed.

Background And Aims: Fulminant myocarditis (FM) is a complex clinical syndrome characterized by acute myocardial inflammation and cardiogenic shock. Evidence on long-term outcomes, mortality risk factors, and targeted treatment options remains limited.

Methods: This retrospective analysis included consecutive adult patients admitted for FM between January 2012 and November 2022 at 26 European tertiary centres.

The role of health literacy in boosting citizen engagement in appropriate use of antibiotics.

Background: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) represents a growing challenge to both individual and public health, driven by the excessive and inappropriate use of antibiotics. Studies emphasize a widespread lack of knowledge regarding proper antibiotic use and the mechanisms of antibiotic resistance. This study aims to explore the relationships between citizens' health engagement and attitudes towards antibiotic consumption (Hypothesis 1, Hypothesis 2) and explores the role of orientation to health literacy as a mediator of these relationships (Hypothesis 3).

Overcoming barriers to referral for CAR T-cell therapy in patients with non-Hodgkin aggressive B-cell lymphomas: A Delphi consensus.

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy has revolutionized the treatment of aggressive B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma, particularly in relapsed/refractory large B-cell lymphoma and mantle cell lymphoma. Despite its transformative potential, significant challenges persist in optimizing patient identification and referral pathways to ensure timely and equitable access. This expert consensus, developed through the Delphi methodology, analyzes key barriers to the referral process and proposes structured solutions to enhance collaboration between referring treatment centers (RTCs) and qualified treatment centers (QTCs).
