Predictive Modelling and Optimisation of Rubber Blend Mixing Using a General Regression Neural Network.

Polymers (Basel)

July 2025

Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology, GGSIP University, New Delhi 110078, India.

This paper presents an intelligent predictive system designed to support real-time decision making in the control of rubber blend mixing processes. The core of the system is a General Regression Neural Network (GRNN), which accurately predicts key process parameters, such as viscosity (expressed as torque), temperature, and energy consumption across varying masses of the processed material. The model can evaluate the mixing progress based on the initial 10% of input data, allowing early intervention and process optimisation.

The dynamics and two-photon absorption (2PA) properties of two pyrimidine chromophores are studied using femtosecond time-resolved fluorescence and two-photon excited fluorescence techniques. The pyrimidine is used as an electron withdrawing group and is substituted at the C2 position with a phenylacridan fragment, while diphenylaministyryl donor moieties are appended at positions C4/6 to afford the pseudo-dipolar and pseudo-quadrupolar molecules 1 and 2, respectively. Chromophore 2 shows more efficient fluorescence emission, while 1 exhibits larger Stokes shifts.

This study aimed to investigate the factors influencing users' adoption of internet of things-enabled healthcare devices by incorporating two new constructs, perceived product value and perceived technology accuracy, into the united theory of acceptance and use of technology. A total of 772 participants were surveyed using convenience sampling, and partial least squares-structural equation modeling was employed to analyze the data. The results showed that all 'united theory of acceptance and use of technology' constructs, except for performance expectancy, had a significant impact on attitudes toward internet of things-enabled healthcare devices.

Experimental Insights into Free Orthogonal Cutting of Stellite.

Materials (Basel)

February 2025

Institute of Design and Engineering Technologies, Faculty of Engineering, Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra, 949 76 Nitra, Slovakia.

The effectiveness of a machining process can be determined by analysing the quality of the generated surface and the rate of tool wear. Stellite is highly challenging to machine, which is why it is primarily processed through grinding methods. This study concentrates on the impact of cutting parameters and tool wear (, ) on the created surface roughness surface (, , ) during the orthogonal cutting of Stellite 6, which is overlaid on a steel surface, C45, prepared by means of HP/HVOF (JP-5000).

Property Tuning in N-Methylpyrrole Azo-Photoswitches via Modification of the Peripheral Substituents.

Chemistry

March 2025

Institute of Organic Chemistry and Technology, Faculty of Chemical Technology, University of Pardubice, Studentská 573, Pardubice, 53210, Czech Republic.

Differently substituted pyrrole-azo-benzene molecular photoswitches were prepared in a straightforward synthetic way. Their fundamental properties were investigated by XRD analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, cyclic voltammetry, UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy, Hyper-Rayleigh Scattering, and NMR spectroscopy; the experimental results were further corroborated by DFT calculations. Thermal robustness, the HOMO/LUMO levels, and the absorption properties were altered mostly by substituting the N-methylpyrrole moiety and further fine-tuned by modifying the benzene substituents.

Article Synopsis
  • The research focused on enhancing the refining and homogenization process of liquid Fe-Si ferroalloy using a water model of a refining ladle, specifically by implementing a gas blowing technique through nozzles at the ladle's bottom.
  • The study involved a physically scaled model of a 3 m ladle, using a gas flow rate of 26.8 l/min, exploring both combined blowing and the use of a purging plug to optimize the process.
  • Laboratory tests led to the selection of a successful gas flow variant, which was later confirmed to improve the refining efficiency in industrial conditions by effectively reducing the carbon and aluminum content in the FeSi alloy.

Modelling the flow properties of rubber blends makes it possible to predict their rheological behaviour during the processing and production of rubber-based products. As the nonlinear nature of such complex processes complicates the creation of exact analytical models, it is appropriate to use artificial intelligence tools in this modelling. The present study was implemented to develop a highly efficient artificial neural network model, optimised using a novel training algorithm with fast parallel computing to predict the results of rheological tests of rubber blends performed under different conditions.
