Lansai B is an indole alkaloid whose biosynthesis is not yet elucidated. However, utilizing nature's tools enabled the stereoselective formation of this unique framework, first by providing the substituted tryptophan as starting material and later in the scaffold-building step forming the pyrroloindole motif. For the latter, the C3-methyltransferase from Streptomyces griseoviridis (SgMT) is employed for the diastereoselective methylation.

Therefore, we developed a small-scale solvent-impervious cultivation system consisting of screw cap-sealed glass vials in combination with a 3D-printed vial holder for the Growth Profiler (EnzyScreen) platform. Aliphatic polyamides, or nylons, are widely used in the textile and automotive industry due to their high durability and tensile strength, but recycling rates are below 5%. Chemical recycling of polyamides is possible but typically yields mixtures of monomers and oligomers which hinders downstream purification. Despite the presence of pyrroloindoles in many natural products with diverse biological activities, their synthesis remains challenging in terms of stereoselectivity, especially with respect to methylation at the indole C3 position. In the present study, the pyrroloindole motif in tryptophan-based diketopiperazines (DKPs) is synthesized using the SAM-dependent methyltransferase SgMT from . The three-dimensional structure of this indole C3-methyltransferase was determined by X-ray crystallography, providing insights into the enzyme.

In order to establish the differences in packaging containing various essential oils, polylactide (PLA)-based polymeric films incorporating poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG), clove (C), grapefruit (G), rosemary (R), and tea tree (T) essential oils were obtained and subsequently analyzed. In addition to examining structure and morphology, the polymer films underwent analyses that are particularly important with regard to contact with food. Mechanical and antioxidant properties, water vapor transmission rate (WVTR), and analysis of barrier properties against ultraviolet (UV) radiation, as well as the migration of ingredients into food simulants such as 10% / solutions of ethanol, 3% / acetic acid solution, and isooctane, were among the critical studies conducted.
