Angiomyofibroblastoma (AMFB) is rarely reported in humans as well as domestic animals, especially in the female genital tract. This painless tumour is characterised by the proliferation of spindle or ovoid tumour cells with myofibroblastic differentiation, which often cluster around thin-walled blood vessels. This report presents a case of feline AMFB for the first time.

The extensive distribution of microplastics (MPs) in the environment and their food chain contamination urgently necessitates a deeper understanding of their molecular-level impact on physiological responses. This study employed a mass spectrometry-based proteomics approach to investigate the potential risks, mechanisms of associated cellular processes, and biological reactions to preformed protein-MPs coronation and intact MPs using brain-derived neuronal and glial cells. Our findings indicate that MPs can adsorb proteins and form a heterogeneous corona layer when interacting with biological fluids such as serum.

G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling is a crucial physiological mechanism that encompasses a wide range of signaling phenomena. Although traditional GPCR signaling involves G protein or arrestin-related activation, other modes such as biphasic activation, dimer or oligomeric activation, and transactivation have also been observed. Herein, we focus on the increasingly recognized process of GPCR-transactivation.

Neuroinflammation is a well-established risk factor for various neurological disorders and cognitive decline. However, the precise molecular mechanisms linking inflammation with neuropsychiatric symptoms remain unclear. Here, using NLRP3 (NOD-like receptor family, pyrin domain-containing protein 3) conditional knockin (cKI) mice harboring a D301N point mutation originating in patients with autoinflammatory diseases, we found that activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome by administration of lipopolysaccharide induced anxiety-like and repetitive behaviors frequently found in patients with neuropsychiatric disorders, as well as increasing NMDAR (N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor)-mediated excitatory synaptic functions in the medial prefrontal cortex of mice.

Background/aim: Pre-mRNA processing factor 4 (PRPF4), a core protein of U4/U6 small nuclear ribonucleoproteins (snRNPs), is crucial for maintaining their structure by interacting with PRPF3 and Cyclophilin H. Beyond its role in splicing, PRPF4 has been implicated in cell survival, apoptosis, and oncogenesis. Although PRPF4 mutations have been associated with retinitis pigmentosa, its role in glioblastoma (GBM) remains unclear.

Background: Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are promising candidates for regenerative therapy due to their self-renewal capability, multilineage differentiation potential, and immunomodulatory effects. The molecular characteristics of MSCs are influenced by their location. Recently, epidural fat (EF) and EF-derived MSCs (EF-MSCs) have garnered attention due to their potential benefits to the spinal microenvironment and their high expression of neural SC markers.

The incidence of melanoma, a highly aggressive skin cancer, continues to increase worldwide, particularly among populations with lighter skin tones. The diagnostic challenge of melanoma lies in the absence of a distinctive clinical presentation, as its characteristics vary based on anatomical location, growth type, and histopathology. The melanoma-associated antigen (MAGE) gene family is differentially expressed in various human cancers, including melanoma.

G protein-coupled receptor kinases (GRKs) are essential regulators of signaling pathways mediated by G protein-coupled receptors. Recent research suggests that GRK-mediated phosphorylation patterns dictate functional selectivity, leading to biased cellular responses. However, a comprehensive understanding of the structural mechanisms at the single-residue level remains elusive.

Background/aim: Skin wound healing is a physiological process restoring the structural and functional integrity of injured skin. During this process, wound management preventing bacterial infection and complications is important for the regeneration of skin layers and adnexa, as well as the protective function of the skin. Therefore, the development of an effective ointment to promote wound healing without complications is beneficial.

Background/aim: Human melanoma-associated antigen A2 (hMAGEA2) family members play several roles in many types of cancer and have been explored as potential prognostic markers. In this study, we investigated the molecular mechanism underlying hMAGEA2-mediated tumorigenesis of prostate cancer.
Materials And Methods: Immunohistochemistry and western blot were used to assess protein expression whereas microarray and quantitative reverse transcription-PCR determined mRNA expression.

Waste plastics are degraded into microplastics (MPs), which are easily accumulated in the human body through digestive tracts, via the food chain. Alcohol is a widely consumed chemical throughout the world with the ability to alter the intestinal barrier. For this reason, this study was aimed to investigate exact relevance between alcohol consumption and organ distributions of MPs in an ethanol feeding animal model characterized by disrupted intestinal mucosal barriers.

Prostate cancer (PC) is the second leading cause of cancer-related death among men. Treatment of PC becomes difficult after progression because PC that used to be androgen-dependent becomes androgen-independent prostate cancer (AIPC). Veratramine, an alkaloid extracted from the root of the genus, has recently been reported to have anticancer effects that work against various cancers; however, its anticancer effects and the underlying mechanism of action in PC remain unknown.

The growing use of plastic materials has resulted in a constant increase in the risk associated with microplastics (MPs). Ultra-violet (UV) light and wind break down modify MPs in the environment into smaller particles known as weathered MPs (WMPs) and these processes increase the risk of MP toxicity. The neurotoxicity of weathered polystyrene-MPs remains unclear.

Although several studies have focused on cancer diagnosis and therapy, prostate cancer (PC) remains an intractable disease. Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), which is used to treat early stage PC can lead to the development of castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC), which is highly associated with androgen receptor (AR) mutations. Nucleolar and coiled-body phosphoprotein 1 (NOLC1) is a chaperone that shuttles between the nucleus and the cytoplasm.

Aggregation of intrinsically disordered -synuclein (αSN) under various conditions is closely related to synucleinopathies. Although various biological membranes have shown to alter the structure and aggregation propensity of αSN, a thorough understanding of the molecular and mechanical mechanism of amyloidogenesis in membranes remains unanswered. Herein, we examined the structural changes, binding properties, and amyloidogenicity of three variations of αSN mutants under two types of liposomes, 1,2-Dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-Phosphocholine (DOPC) and presynaptic vesicle mimetic (Mimic) membranes.

The effect of glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) on cells under oxidative stress induced by glutamate, a neurotransmitter, and the underlying molecular mechanisms were assessed in the present study. We found that in the pre-treatment of HT-22 cells with glutamate in a dose-dependent manner, intracellular ROS were excessively generated, and additional cell damage occurred in the form of lipid peroxidation. The neurotoxicity caused by excessive glutamate was found to be ferroptosis and not apoptosis.

Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is a powerful tool to diagnose infectious diseases. Uracil DNA glycosylase (UDG) is broadly used to remove carryover contamination in PCR. However, UDG can contribute to false negative results when not inactivated completely, leading to DNA degradation during the amplification step.
