Landslides pose significant threats to ecosystems, lives, and economies, particularly in the geologically fragile Sub-Himalayan region of West Bengal, India. This study enhances landslide susceptibility prediction by developing an ensemble framework integrating Recursive Feature Elimination (RFE) with meta-learning techniques. Seven advanced machine learning models- Logistic Regression (LR), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Random Forest (RF), Extremely Randomized Trees (ET), Gradient Boosting (GB), Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), and a Meta Classifier (MC) were applied using Remote Sensing and GIS tools to identify key landslide-conditioning factors and classify susceptibility zones.

Functional scans in cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) adopting bSSFP sequences suffer from dark band artifacts due to B inhomogeneity. The best remedy to mitigate this issue is through cardiac B shimming. The development of an optimal B shim strategy for the human heart is hindered by a limited understanding of B conditions in clinical diagnostic orientations of CMR.

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) plays important roles in brain development and neural function. Constitutive knockout of the splicing regulator RBM4 reduces BDNF expression in the developing brain and causes cerebellar hypoplasia, an autism-like feature. Here, we show that Rbm4 knockout induced intron 6 retention of Hsf1, leading to downregulation of HSF1 protein and its downstream target BDNF.

Intent inferral on a hand orthosis for stroke patients is challenging due to the difficulty of data collection. Additionally, EMG signals exhibit significant variations across different conditions, sessions, and subjects, making it hard for classifiers to generalize. Traditional approaches require a large labeled dataset from the new condition, session, or subject to train intent classifiers; however, this data collection process is burdensome and time-consuming.

Photocatalytic water splitting is a promising route to low-cost, green H. However, this approach is currently limited in its solar-to-hydrogen conversion efficiency. One major source of efficiency loss is attributed to the high rates of undesired side and back reactions, which are exacerbated by the proximity of neighboring oxidation and reduction sites.

As we age, our immune system's ability to effectively respond to pathogens declines, a phenomenon known as immunosenescence. This age-related deterioration affects both innate and adaptive immunity, compromising immune function and leading to chronic inflammation that accelerates aging. Immunosenescence is characterized by alterations in immune cell populations and impaired functionality, resulting in increased susceptibility to infections, diminished vaccine efficacy, and higher prevalence of age-related diseases.

Background: Instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) are typically self-reported ability to perform complex tasks vital for independent living. There is a need for a complementary objective, performance-based approach especially in tracking outcomes in visual rehabilitation for patients with irreversible vision impairment ("low vision"). Our goals are: (1) To describe the validity of timed performance of instrumental activities of daily living (timed IADL or TIADL) tasks in individuals with irreversible vision impairment, by examining its association with visual function (visual acuity, contrast sensitivity, visual field), (2) To explore the correlation between TIADL and self-reported IADL.

Unlabelled: With the development of sequencing technology and analytic tools, studying within-species variations enhances the understanding of microbial biological processes. Nevertheless, most existing methods designed for strain-level analysis lack the capability to concurrently assess both strain proportions and genome-wide single nucleotide variants (SNVs) across longitudinal metagenomic samples. In this study, we introduce LongStrain, an integrated pipeline for the analysis of large-scale metagenomic data from individuals with longitudinal or repeated samples.

Manual identification of tomato leaf diseases is a time-consuming and laborious process that may lead to inaccurate results without professional assistance. Therefore, an automated, early, and precise leaf disease recognition system is essential for farmers to ensure the quality and quantity of tomato production by providing timely interventions to mitigate disease spread. In this study, we have proposed seven robust Bayesian optimized deep hybrid learning models leveraging the synergy between deep learning and machine learning for the automated classification of ten types of tomato leaves (nine diseased and one healthy).

Coassembly of peptide biomaterials offers a compelling avenue to broaden the spectrum of hierarchically ordered supramolecular nanoscale structures that may be relevant for biomedical and biotechnological applications. In this work coassemblies of amphiphilic and oppositely charged, anionic and cationic, β-sheet peptides are studied, which may give rise to a diverse range of coassembled forms. Mixtures of the peptides show significantly lower critical coassembly concentration (CCC) values compared to those of the individual pure peptides.

Background: Lyme disease continues to expand in Canada and the USA and no single intervention is likely to curb the epidemic.
Methods: We propose a platform to quantitatively assess the effectiveness of a subset of Ixodes scapularis tick management approaches. The platform allows us to assess the impact of different control treatments, conducted either individually (single interventions) or in combination (combined efforts), with varying timings and durations.

Landscape properties have a profound influence on the diversity and distribution of biota, with present-day biodiversity hot spots occurring in topographically complex regions globally. Complex topography is created by tectonic processes and further shaped by interactions between climate and land-surface processes. These processes enrich diversity at the regional scale by promoting speciation and accommodating increased species richness along strong environmental gradients.

Electrolysis of bicarbonate-containing CO capture solutions is a promising approach towards achieving low-cost carbon-neutral chemicals production. However, the parasitic bicarbonate-mediated hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and electrode instability in the presence of trace impurities remain major obstacles to overcome. This work demonstrates that the combined use of titanium dioxide (TiO) overlayers with the chelating agent ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid (EDTA) significantly enhances the selectivity and stability of Ag-based electrocatalysts for bicarbonate electrolysis.

Amyloid fibrils have been identified in many protein systems, mostly linked to progression and cytotoxicity in neurodegenerative diseases and other pathologies, but have also been observed in normal physiological systems. A growing body of work has shown that amyloid fibrils can catalyze chemical reactions. Most studies have focused on catalysis by de-novo synthetic amyloid-like peptides; however, recent studies reveal that physiological, native amyloids are catalytic as well.
