Background: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) cirrhosis is now the second leading indication for liver transplantation (LT) worldwide and is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular events before and after LT. Cirrhotics who undergo left heart catheterization (LHC) with coronary artery stenting for LT evaluation require dual-antiplatelet therapy (DAPT). Data regarding the safety, risk of gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding, and mortality risk of cirrhotics receiving DAPT is limited.

Background: Prenatal exposure to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) may adversely impact child neurodevelopment; however, epidemiologic findings remain inconclusive because of small sample sizes, limited exposure variability, and differing neurodevelopmental measures. We aimed to investigate the relationship between prenatal PFAS exposure and child behavior.
Methods: We pooled data from nine study sites in the nationwide Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Cohort.

Background: Smoking is a well-established risk factor for postoperative complications following open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) for rotational ankle fractures. However, the effect of non-tobacco nicotine (NTN) use on these outcomes remains unclear, despite the increasing use of products such as vapes. This retrospective cohort study investigates whether perioperative NTN use is associated with increased postoperative complications following ankle ORIF compared with a nicotine-independent (NI) control group.

The One Health concept strongly brings into focus the important connections for human and ecosystem health. However, the incorporation of behaviour method guidelines in risk assessment and regulation/policy is not equal between human and ecological disciplines. A survey was conducted on the perceptions and role of behavioural (eco)toxicology in the protection of the human and ecosystem health.

Background: Assessing the delivery of medical screening content in entry-level doctor of physical therapy (DPT) educational programs is essential to inform curricula as physical therapists (PTs) are called upon to fill broader roles in the healthcare system. The purpose of this study was to survey clinical instructors (CIs) across three DPT programs as a practice analysis regarding beliefs toward medical screening, the frequency performing medical screening skills, and the importance placed on the skills for their clinical students.
Methods: CIs from three DPT programs were recruited via e-mail to participate in this survey study over a total duration of 4 weeks.

Background: The ESCAPE-MeVO (Endovascular Treatment to Improve Outcomes for Medium Vessel Occlusions) and DISTAL (Endovascular Therapy plus Best Medical Treatment vs Best Medical Treatment Alone for Medium Vessel Occlusion Stroke) trials failed to demonstrate the superiority of endovascular thrombectomy over best medical management for medium and small vessel occlusions. Potential limitations of these trials include older patient populations, lower presenting National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) scores, higher rates of premorbid disability, delayed revascularization times, inclusion of both medium and small vessel occlusions, and widespread use of stent retrievers. Here we present M2 occlusion data from the Imperative Trial, evaluating aspiration thrombectomy with the Zoom System.

Perinephric myxoid pseudotumor of fat (PMPTF) is a recently characterized lesion typically associated with non-neoplastic renal disease. Its pathogenesis is thought to result from chronic renal "irritation," either due to mass effect from renal carcinoma or inflammation related to benign renal conditions. Prompted by several cases arising in the absence of underlying renal pathology, we conducted a multi-institutional study of 29 mass-forming cases with detailed clinical, histologic, and molecular characterization.

Background: Incretin-based therapies are used to treat type 2 diabetes and obesity, but the presence of diabetes diminishes the magnitude of weight loss produced by these drugs in people with obesity. It is not known whether this attenuated weight change is relevant to the clinical benefits of these drugs in heart failure.
Objectives: The goal of this study was to assess the influence of diabetes on the efficacy and safety of tirzepatide in the SUMMIT trial.

The global rise of antimicrobial resistance has intensified the search for novel therapeutic agents that act through non-conventional mechanisms. Gallium-based nanoparticles (GaNPs) represent a promising yet underexplored class of metal-based antimicrobials. Owing to their unique ability to mimic iron(iii), GaNPs disrupt key bacterial metabolic processes, particularly those dependent on iron acquisition and utilization.

Objectives: While evidence suggests an association between vasomotor symptoms (VMS; hot flushes and night sweats) and elevated blood pressure (BP), it remains unknown whether females who experience VMS have elevated muscle sympathetic nerve activity (MSNA), a major modulator of BP. We hypothesized that postmenopausal females with VMS would have elevated BP and MSNA at rest and during stress compared to age-matched females without VMS.
Methods: Participants were grouped based on whether they currently or previously experienced VMS (n=43) or never experienced VMS (non-VMS; n=26).

Obesity or excess visceral adiposity plays a fundamental role in the pathogenesis of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), but it is not clear that an expanded adipose tissue mass contributes importantly to the evolution and progression of heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). Whereas central adiposity characterizes most patients with HFpEF, obesity was not a remarkable feature of HFrEF in the large-scale trials carried out in the 1980s and 1990s, and studies typically characterized obesity as a protective factor against adverse outcomes. In the general community without apparent heart disease, the finding of obesity or central adiposity precedes and predicts the subsequent occurrence of HFpEF, but not HFrEF.

Post-operative complications of cardiothoracic surgery include vasoplegic shock and post-operative atrial fibrillation (POAF). Use of catecholamines for vasoplegic shock may enhance the risk of POAF; thus, use of non-catecholamine vasopressors is reasonable. This retrospective, single-center cohort study compared early to delayed initiation of vasopressin in vasoplegic shock and assessed the association with POAF.

A Bayesian approach for variable selection is developed for use in models with a misclassified binary predictor variable. We define the main outcome model containing the latent predictor, the measurement model associated with the prevalence of the predictor, and the sensitivity and specificity models of the fallible classifier conditioned on the true value of the predictor. We use binary indicator variables to execute the Gibbs sampler-based variable selection process, and we identify the highest posterior probability model given the data.
