Selective inhibitors are essential for targeted therapeutics and for probing enzyme functions in various biological systems. The two main challenges in identifying such protein-based inhibitors lie in the extensive experimental effort required, including the generation of large libraries, and in tailoring the selectivity of inhibitors to enzymes with homologous structures. To address these challenges, machine learning (ML) is being used to improve protein design by training on targeted libraries and identifying key interface mutations that enhance affinity and specificity.

The Developing Belief Network is a global research collaborative studying religious development in diverse social-cultural settings, with a focus on the intersection of cognitive mechanisms and cultural beliefs and practices in early and middle childhood. The current manuscript describes the study protocol for the network's second wave of data collection, which aims to further explore the development and diversity of religious cognition and behavior using a multi-time point approach. This protocol is designed to investigate three key research questions-how children represent and reason about religious and supernatural agents, how children represent and reason about religion as an aspect of social identity, and how religious and supernatural beliefs are transmitted within and between generations-via a set of eight tasks for children between the ages of 5 and 13 years and a survey completed by their parents/caregivers.

This study examined the relationship between family-work role conflict and work self-efficacy among Israeli mothers during the Swords of Iron War emergency, focusing on coping resources such as optimism and conflict management strategies. The participants included 182 working mothers of young children experiencing heightened stress due to the ongoing war. Of the three examined coping strategies, routine maintenance was most prevalent, followed by reorganization of work and family roles, and seeking help from the environment.

Autophagy is an evolutionarily conserved cellular process that is prominent during bacterial infections. In this review article, we discuss how direct pathogen clearance via xenophagy and regulation of inflammatory products represent dual functions of autophagy that coordinate an effective antimicrobial response. We detail the molecular mechanisms of xenophagy, including signals that indicate the presence of an intracellular pathogen and autophagy receptor-mediated cargo targeting, while highlighting pathogen counterstrategies, such as bacterial effector proteins that inhibit autophagy initiation or exploit autophagic membranes for replication.

We introduce randomness to Pomeau-Manneville (PM) maps by incorporating dichotomous multiplicative noise that alternates between dynamics with an attracting and a repelling fixed point. We characterize the dynamical behavior by measuring the separation of two nearby orbits. Controlling the probability of selecting the repelling PM map, we find two noise-induced transitions.

Traditional treatment of biofouling with toxic paints or antibiotics has significant limitations and challenges, including negative impacts on surrounding ecosystems and the emergence of resistant microbial strains. Antibiotics often prove ineffective in penetrating the dense and protective structure of biofilms, rendering traditional antimicrobial approaches less effective and leading to chronic infections. Toxic paints, while initially effective in reducing microbial colonization, contribute to long-term environmental contamination and harm non-target organisms.
