Impedimetric biosensors represent a powerful and promising tool for studying and monitoring biological processes associated with proteins and can contribute to the development of new approaches in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. The basic principles, analytical methods, and applications of hybrid impedimetric biosensors for express protein detection in biological fluids are described. The advantages of this type of biosensors, such as simplicity and speed of operation, sensitivity and selectivity of analysis, cost-effectiveness, and an ability to be integrated into hybrid microfluidic systems, are demonstrated.

Spatiotemporal properties of neuronal population activity in cortical motor areas have been subjects of experimental and theoretical investigations, generating numerous interpretations regarding mechanisms for preparing and executing limb movements. Two competing models, representational and dynamical, strive to explain the relationship between movement parameters and neuronal activity. A dynamical model uses the jPCA method that holistically characterizes oscillatory activity in neuron populations by maximizing the data rotational dynamics.

Machine learning (ML) has emerged as an efficient and feasible technique for tackling engineering problems. Despite the numerous advantages, the implementation of ML for evaluating the fire resistance of structural members is relatively scarce, primarily due to the lack of a reliable database with a substantial number of data points. To address this knowledge gap, this paper presents a comprehensive database on the fire performance of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) strengthened reinforced concrete (RC) beams.

Precipitation nowcasting in real-time is a challenging task that demands accurate and current data from multiple sources. Despite various approaches proposed by researchers to address this challenge, models such as the interaction-based dual attention LSTM (IDA-LSTM) face limitations, particularly in radar echo extrapolation. These limitations include higher computational costs and resource requirements.

Background: Adequately selecting the initial follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) dose during controlled ovarian stimulation (COS) is key for success in assisted reproduction. The objective of COS is to obtain an optimal number of oocytes to increase the chances of achieving a pregnancy, while avoiding complications for the patient. Current clinical protocols do achieve good results for the majority of patients, but further refinements in individualized FSH dosing may reduce the risk of poor ovarian response while also limiting the risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) risk.

Determining changes in the protein's thermal stability following mutations is critical in protein engineering and understanding pathogenic missense mutations. Despite the development of various computational methods to predict the effects of single-point mutations, their accuracy remains limited. In this study, we propose a new computational method, OmeDDG, that more accurately predicts mutation-induced Gibbs free energy changes in protein folding (ΔΔ).

Tree age is one of the key characteristics of a forest, along with tree species and height. It affects management decisions of forest owners and allows researchers to analyze environmental characteristics in support of sustainable development. Although forest age is of primary significance, it can be unknown for remote areas and large territories.

This study presents a novel approach for mapping global chromatin interactions using S1 nuclease, a sequence-agnostic enzyme. We develop and outline a protocol that leverages S1 nuclease's ability to effectively introduce breaks into both open and closed chromatin regions, allowing for comprehensive profiling of chromatin properties. Our S1 Hi-C method enables the preparation of high-quality Hi-C libraries, marking a significant advancement over previously established DNase I Hi-C protocols.

Cumulus expansion is an important indicator of oocyte maturation and has been suggested to be indicative of greater oocyte developmental capacity. Although multiple methods have been described to assess cumulus expansion, none of them is considered a gold standard. Additionally, these methods are subjective and time-consuming.

Objective: We aim to compare the effects of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and histamine-2 receptor antagonists (H2RAs) on the gut microbiota through longitudinal analysis.
Design: Healthy volunteers were randomly assigned to receive either PPI (n=23) or H2RA (n=26) daily for seven consecutive days. We collected oral (saliva) and faecal samples before and after the intervention for metagenomic next-generation sequencing.

We propose a sparse computation method for optimizing the inference of neural networks in reinforcement learning (RL) tasks. Motivated by the processing abilities of the brain, this method combines simple neural network pruning with a delta-network algorithm to account for the input data correlations. The former mimics neuroplasticity by eliminating inefficient connections; the latter makes it possible to update neuron states only when their changes exceed a certain threshold.

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) has emerged as a prominent non-invasive technique for modulating brain function and treating mental disorders. By generating a high-precision magnetically evoked electric field (E-field) using a TMS coil, it enables targeted stimulation of specific brain regions. However, current computational methods employed for E-field simulations necessitate extensive preprocessing and simulation time, limiting their fast applications in the determining the optimal coil placement.

Crowd counting, as a basic computer vision task, plays an important role in many fields such as video surveillance, accident prediction, public security, and intelligent transportation. At present, crowd counting tasks face various challenges. Firstly, due to the diversity of crowd distribution and increasing population density, there is a phenomenon of large-scale crowd aggregation in public places, sports stadiums, and stations, resulting in very serious occlusion.

Deep learning models perform unreliably when the data come from a distribution different from the training one. In critical applications such as medical imaging, out-of-distribution (OOD) detection methods help to identify such data samples, preventing erroneous predictions. In this paper, we further investigate OOD detection effectiveness when applied to 3D medical image segmentation.

However, the number of enterotypes suggested in the literature ranged from two to four. The growth of available metagenome data and the use of exact, non-linear methods of data analysis challenges the very concept of clusters in the multidimensional space of bacterial microbiomes.

Functional connectivity is crucial for cognitive processes in the healthy brain and serves as a marker for a range of neuropathological conditions. Non-invasive exploration of functional coupling using temporally resolved techniques such as MEG allows for a unique opportunity of exploring this fundamental brain mechanism. The indirect nature of MEG measurements complicates the estimation of functional coupling due to the volume conduction and spatial leakage effects.

Cross-modal recipe retrieval has gained prominence due to its ability to retrieve a text representation given an image representation and vice versa. Clustering these recipe representations based on similarity is essential to retrieve relevant information about unknown food images. Existing studies cluster similar recipe representations in the latent space based on class names.
