Avoidance of ionizing radiation during management of pediatric urolithiasis is imperative. Objectives are to evaluate feasibility of ultrasound-only-guided mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL) in children and to compare it with fluoroscopic guidance. Randomized comparative trial (NCT03250559) including 60 renal units with stones >1 cm in 57 children ≤14 years.

Calcium salt deposition in the kidney induces epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in renal tubular epithelial cells, which is the pathological basis for the progression to renal fibrosis in patients with renal stones; however, effective drugs to prevent and treat this disease have not been adequately investigated. In this study, we conducted a comprehensive analysis of fibrosis-related core genes by utilizing bioinformatics on RNA-seq data, along with web database information. Additionally, we designed both in vivo and in vitro experiments to elucidate the mechanisms and signaling pathways through which Desmodium styracifolium polysaccharides (Ds) mitigate renal fibrosis induced by nephrolithiasis.

Epidemiological studies show that some diabetic patients develop end-stage renal dysfunction without significant proteinuria or glomerulopathy, underscoring the role of renal tubular epithelial cell (TEC) impairment in diabetic kidney disease (DKD). However, the primary pathogenic determinants underlying TEC impairment and disease advancement in DKD progression remain unclear. This study reveals that asprosin (ASP) is up-regulated and positively correlated with kidney dysfunction in DKD mice.

Gut microbial dysbiosis and the resultant metabolic disorder are intimately associated with calcium oxalate (CaOx) stone formation. Renal CaOx crystal deposition is one of the primary initiating factors of CaOx formation; however, the critical signaling metabolites communicating along the gut-kidney axis, and their regulation on renal CaOx crystal deposition remain unclear. Here, we investigate the role of gut microbiota-associated unconjugated bilirubin (UCB) metabolism in renal CaOx crystalline pathogenesis.

Background: While urolithiasis affects up to 14.8% of the global population, comprehensive analyses of stone composition patterns in relation to multiple comorbidities, seasonal variations, and infection risk remain limited.
Methods: We analyzed 33,579 urinary stones collected from 2014-2024 in Southern China.
