Article Abstract

We urgently need novel, effective, and accessible vaccines to end tuberculosis (TB) as a public health crisis. The 7th Global Forum on TB Vaccines was convened from 8-10 October 2024 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Under the theme of "Driving innovation from discovery to access," the program covered the breadth of TB vaccine research and development (R&D) through implementation, while underscoring the need for greater innovation and investments to advance development and ensure rapid, affordable, and equitable access. Participants shared the latest research on: approaches to diversify the TB vaccine pipeline, candidates advancing through late-stage trials toward licensure, and efforts to ensure new TB vaccines reach the populations that most need them. The forum provided a platform to learn from diverse experts across the field, including researchers, industry, funders, civil society, and affected communities. Participants examined cross-cutting enablers throughout, including opportunities to establish novel partnership and financing models, enhance open science, optimize R&D practices, and strengthen leadership and engagement with community members and high burden countries alike. In this report, we synthesize key themes and findings from the meeting, highlighting progress and priorities in the TB vaccine field.

GADD45A is Essential for Granulosa Cells Differentiation and Ovarian Reserve in Human and Mice.

J Cell Mol Med

September 2025

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, West China Second University Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, China.

Diminished ovarian reserve (DOR) poses significant challenges in reproductive health, with emerging evidence implicating DNA damage repair pathways. While GADD45A is a critical regulator of DNA repair, cell cycle and apoptosis, its role in DOR pathogenesis remains unexplored. We employed transcriptome sequencing, qPCR and Western Blot analyses to compare GADD45A expression in granulosa cells (GCs) between DOR patients and controls.

Indole-based natural product for plant protection: Discovery of alkaloid barrettin and its derivatives as novel antiviral and antifungal agents.

Pestic Biochem Physiol

November 2025

Tianjin Key Laboratory of Structure and Performance for Functional Molecules, College of Chemistry, Tianjin Normal University, Tianjin 300387, China. Electronic address:

The extensive use of highly toxic and residual pesticides has a significant negative impact on agricultural production and the ecological environment. The development of new green antiviral agents has become a major demand for ensuring the development of green ecological agriculture. Indole alkaloids are widely present in nature and have diverse biological activities.

The global rise of mosquito-borne diseases and widespread resistance to existing insecticides highlight the urgent need for novel, field-relevant mosquitocides. Here, we report the development and validation of a high-throughput, in vivo screening assay capable of evaluating adult mosquito toxicity across large chemical libraries. Utilizing a 96-well plate format, this assay enables simultaneous testing of hundreds of compounds per run using both net and filter paper substrates, with direct measurement of adult mosquito knockdown and mortality via tarsal contact - an exposure route highly relevant to real-world vector control tools such as long-lasting insecticide-treated nets (LLINs) and indoor residual spraying (IRS).

The innovation paradox: Why consumers buy green products for novelty, not the planet.

J Environ Manage

September 2025

Department of Tourism and Marketing, Griffith Business School, Griffith University, Gold Coast Campus, QLD, 4222, Australia. Electronic address:

Consumers claim environmental concern consistently choose conventional products over green alternatives. This study has discovered a paradox about Malaysian consumers' green purchasing decisions which are driven more by novelty-seeking psychology than environmental responsibility consciousness. Through multi-methodological validation combining correlation analysis, machine learning algorithms, and structural equation modeling across urban consumers, we found that consumer novelty seeking exhibits stronger associations with green consumption behavior than traditional planned behavior constructs.

A detailed understanding of the composition and polymerization mechanism of elemental sulfur remains a decades long unresolved question for modern chemistry. However, the dynamic nature of molten sulfur significantly complicates its accurate characterization. To overcome this challenge, we performed the first comprehensive molecular dynamics (MD) simulations using a ReaxFF reactive force field specifically parameterized to capture the complex ring-opening polymerization dynamics of elemental sulfur.
