Photoelectron angular distributions are reported for a series of aqueous potassium carboxylate solutions, ranging from bulk-solvated to strongly surface-active species. The quantitative information determined from this work demonstrates how the measured photoelectron angular distributions are influenced by the ions' increasing propensity for the surface in aqueous solutions. Our study provides insight into the relative depth and location of the carboxylate functional group, which is valuable for investigating the adsorption of organic molecules at liquid-vapor interfaces.

Although improving the charging cutoff voltage is an effective strategy to increase its capacity, LiCoO ("LCO") undergoes rapid capacity decay due to severe structural and interface degradations at high voltages. Herein, we proposed a multifunctional surface modification by coating nano-sized entropy materials (Li-La-Ti-Zr-Co-O, Nano-MEO). Nano-MEO rivets were constructed on the surface of LCO, which stabilized the fragile surface.

Flexible photonic contactless human-machine interface based on visible-blind near-infrared organic photodetectors.

Natl Sci Rev

September 2025

The Centre of Nanoscale Science and Technology and Key Laboratory of Functional Polymer Materials, Institute of Polymer Chemistry, Renewable Energy Conversion and Storage Center (RECAST), College of Chemistry, Nankai University, Tianjin 300071, China.

Contactless human-machine interfaces (C-HMIs) are revolutionizing artificial intelligence (AI)-driven domains, yet face application limitations due to narrow sensing ranges, environmental fragility, and structural rigidity. To address these obstacles, we developed a flexible photonic C-HMI (Flex-PCI) using flexible visible-blind near-infrared organic photodetectors. In addition to its unprecedented performance across key metrics, including broad detection range (0.

Protonation Enables Durable and Efficient Water Oxidation on Commercial TiO/IrO.

J Phys Chem Lett

September 2025

Collaborative Innovation Center of Advanced Microstructures, National Laboratory of Solid State Microstructures, College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Nanjing University, No. 22 Hankou Road, Nanjing, Jiangsu 210093, P. R. China.

The oxygen evolution reaction (OER) performance of commercial TiO-supported IrO (IrO/TiO) suffers from the high electron transfer barriers at the IrO/TiO interface. Herein, we develop a cathodic polarization strategy to protonate TiO (p-TiO) in a commercial IrO/TiO catalyst. The high-density Ti-OH polaronic states on the surface of protonated TiO greatly contribute to the decrease in the electron transfer barriers at the IrO/TiO interface.

The development of ultrablack coatings with exceptional absorption (>98%) has historically faced significant scientific and engineering challenges, primarily due to limitations in material selection, structural design, and practical durability. Considering the difficulties in practical applications of ultrablack materials with micro/nano structures and the limitations of planar ultrablack coatings in optical performance, we introduce an innovative integration of conventional planar ultrablack coatings with a specifically engineered trilayer antireflection architecture. This hybrid system incorporates a refractive index distribution (1.
