Article Abstract

We prove an upper bound on long-range distillable entanglement in D spatial dimensions. Namely, it must decay faster than 1/r, where r is the distance between entangled regions. For states that are asymptotically rotationally invariant, the bound is strengthened to 1/r^{D}. We then find explicit examples of quantum states with decay arbitrarily close to the bound. In one dimension, we construct free fermion Hamiltonians with nearest neighbor couplings that have these states as ground states. Curiously, states in conformal field theory are far from saturation, with distillable entanglement decaying faster than any polynomial.

Entanglement purification is to distill high-quality entanglement from low-quality entanglement. Entanglement purification determines the efficiency and communication rates and plays a key role in quantum repeaters and long-distance quantum communications. Existing entanglement purification protocols and proof of principle experiments usually choose two identical input pairs.

Entanglement-based quantum key distribution (EB-QKD) is considered an important implementation method for fully connected quantum networks. Due to practical considerations for conserving fiber resources, the demand for integrating EB-QKD into existing optical networks through wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) in the same fiber (referred to as EB-WDM-QKD) is increasingly urgent. However, the noise generated from the classical system is an inherent limitation that restricts the performance of EB-WDM-QKD.

In quantum-enhanced astronomical imaging, multiple distant apertures work together by utilizing quantum resources distributed from a central server. Our findings suggest that preprocessing the stellar light received by all telescopes can improve imaging performance without increasing resource consumption. The preprocessing leverages weak quantum measurements and modifies random-party entanglement distillation protocols from quantum information science.

Quantum image distillation aims to extract the signal image from a mixture of the signal and noise images that are indistinguishable in terms of spectrum and polarization, a process that is unachievable with classical methods. However, in contrast to the amplitude image, phase distillation is challenging via direct spatial or temporal correlation of photon pairs. Incorporating with the polarization entanglement of photon pairs, it is demonstrated here that the phase signal can be quickly distilled by using an integrated computing metasurface to solve the Poisson equation.
