Article Abstract

Direct fetal electrocardiogram (FECG) plays a crucial role in assessing fetal health and monitoring pregnancy conditions. Extracting high-quality FECG signals from maternal abdominal electrocardiogram (AECG) recordings remains a significant challenge due to the low amplitude of the FECG, its overlap with the maternal electrocardiogram (MECG), and the potential exposure to impulsive noise in the real world. Adaptive filtering (AF) is an essential method for FECG extraction, however, its performance tends to degrade in the presence of impulsive noise, such as instrument interference. To address this limitation, we propose a novel AF algorithm based on a nonlinear logarithmic hyperbolic secant (LHS) cost function. Alpha-stable distribution is adopted to model the realistic noises due to its high scalability. To further enhance extraction accuracy and optimize the preset parameters, we introduce a hyperbolic tangent-like transformation and develop the improved logarithmic hyperbolic secant adaptive filtering (ILHSAF) algorithm. The proposed approach leverages the approximate linear interval of the LHS function to maximize the preservation of original FECG information within the AECG. We use the synthetic dataset FECGSYN as well as two real datasets, Daisy and NI-FECG, to evaluate the performance and our methods outperform other existing AF algorithms. The ILHSAF algorithm exhibits commendable performance in R-peak detection and full-wave analysis on both real-world datasets, indicating its effective denoising capability and robustness in FECG extraction. This advancement establishes a foundation for long-term maternal and fetal monitoring using portable devices, as the proposed algorithms are capable of real-time operation.

Tropospheric ozone (O) is a major air pollutant that negatively affects human health and vegetation, and plays a central role in climate change and atmospheric chemistry. Current simulations of tropospheric O concentrations in climate and air-quality models are significantly limited by the inaccurate representation of O dry deposition rate-particularly in urban areas, where field measurements remain scarce. We hypothesize that O dry deposition in the urban environment is controlled by factors similar to those over vegetation, albeit via potentially different mechanisms.

As part of this study, mechanical property tests were carried out at different stages with different curing temperatures to elucidate the effect of temperature on the mechanical properties of concrete. The curing temperatures were laboratory curing temperature (standard curing at 20 °C) and variable temperature curing (simulated site ambient temperature curing) according to the actual temperature of previous construction sites. The compressive strength, split tensile strength, axial tensile strength, and modulus of elasticity values were tested, and the growth rates were calculated.

Unlabelled: Since little is known about the disposition index (DI) in autoantibody-positive individuals, we have assessed whether DI has a similar association between insulin secretion and sensitivity to the association observed in other populations. In TrialNet Pathway to Prevention (TNPTP; n = 6,620) and Diabetes Prevention Trial-Type 1 (DPT-1; n = 704) study participants, two secretion-sensitivity pairs, each representing a DI, were analyzed cross-sectionally at baseline: area under the curve (AUC) C-peptide/AUC glucose (AUC ratio) and Matsuda index (MI) from TNPTP oral glucose tolerance tests (oral DI), first-phase insulin response (FPIR), and 1 / fasting insulin (1/FI) from DPT-1 from intravenous glucose tolerance tests (DI). Participants were followed for progression to type 1 diabetes (T1D).
