A photonic approach for a frequency-doubled microwave waveforms generator based on time-domain processing is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. This approach achieves the generation of various frequency-doubled microwave waveforms by overlapping optical envelopes and performing mathematical operations on optical envelopes. Detailed theoretical analysis and simulations are provided. In the experiment, frequency-doubled bright and dark parabolic waveforms, frequency-doubled sawtooth and reversed-sawtooth waveforms, frequency-doubled triangular waveform, and frequency-doubled square waveform are successfully generated, which agree well with the theoretical expectations. This method achieves frequency-doubled waveforms generation in an intuitionistic and a convenient way from the perspective of time-domain processing, which effectively eliminates the need for strict manipulation of modulation sidebands and may offer a new access to developing frequency-doubled microwave waveforms generators.
