Article Abstract

We present growth, spectroscopy and efficient laser operation of the cubic fluoride crystal Er:BaF at 2.8 µm. An Er(3.6 at.%):BaF crystal was grown by the vertical Bridgman method. We reveal the thermal conductivities of pure BaF and Er:BaF crystals for different temperatures. The temperature-dependent cryogenic absorption spectra were investigated in the near-infrared range, and we determined the energetic positions of the Stark levels of the upper and lower laser multiplets I and I, respectively. A strong absorption peak at 971.5 nm and a broad gain bandwidth around 2.7-2.9 µm with a large emission cross section at 2732 nm were found. Under pumping with an optically-pumped semiconductor laser (OPSL) at 971.5 nm, we obtained 0.4 W of output power at a wavelength of 2786 nm with a slope efficiency of 31%. The slope efficiency is the highest in reported for 3 µm lasers based on Er:BaF at present.

Unlabelled: There is a need for the development of broad-spectrum antiviral compounds that can act as first-line therapeutic countermeasures to emerging viral infections. Host-directed approaches present a promising avenue of development and carry the benefit of mitigating risks of viral escape mutants. We have previously found the SKI (super killer) complex to be a broad-spectrum, host-target with our lead compound ("UMB18") showing activity against influenza A virus, coronaviruses, and filoviruses.

Background: Kaempferol (KAE), a bioactive flavonoid, has limited solubility and stability in water. Zein-gum arabic (GA) nanoparticles (NPs) are promising carriers for KAE, but the influence of preparation methods on their structure and properties remains unclear. This study investigated the effect of preparation method on the structure and properties of KAE-loaded zein-GA NPs.

Effective removal of trace heavy metal ions from aqueous bodies is a pressing problem and requires significant improvement in the area of absorbent material in terms of removal efficiency and sustainability. We propose an efficient strategy to enhance the adsorption efficiency of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) by growing dendrimers on their surface. First, CNTs were pre-functionalized with maleic acid (MA) via Diels-Alder reaction in presence of a deep eutectic solvent under ultrasonication.

Lithium metavanadate (LiVO) is a material of growing interest due to its monoclinic 2/ structure, which supports efficient lithium-ion diffusion through one-dimensional channels. This study presents a detailed structural, electrical, and dielectric characterization of LiVO synthesized a solid-state reaction, employing X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), and impedance/dielectric spectroscopy across a temperature range of 473-673 K and frequency range of 10 Hz to 1 MHz. XRD and Rietveld refinement confirmed high crystallinity and single-phase purity with lattice parameters = 10.

Adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) constitutes a heterogeneous and expanding patient cohort with distinctive diagnostic and management challenges. Conventional detection methods are ineffective at reflecting lesion heterogeneity and the variability in risk profiles. Artificial intelligence (AI), including machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) models, has revolutionized the potential for improving diagnosis, risk stratification, and personalized care across the ACHD spectrum.
