Background: It is unknown whether atrial myopathy, ascertained by poor left atrial (LA) function, is associated with biological aging independent of chronological age. Such an association would indicate that atrial myopathy may be preventable by intervening on modifiable risk factors that accelerate aging. Therefore, we evaluated associations of midlife leukocyte telomere length (LTL, a measure of biological aging) with measures of LA function (a surrogate for LA myopathy).
Methods: We included 4376 adults (mean age, 75 years; 41.11% men; 16.36% Black individuals) from the ARIC (Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities) study. We measured LA function as LA reservoir, conduit, and contractile strain using 2-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography (2011-2013). We used TelSeq software to estimate LTL from whole genome sequencing data collected in midlife (1987-1998; mean age, 55 years). LTL estimates were inverse normalized within read length group and whole genome sequencing platform before being merged. We used linear regression to estimate the associations of LTL with LA function.
Results: LTL was weakly correlated with chronological age at blood draw for LTL measurement (=-0.12; <0.001). In models adjusted for chronological age at blood draw for LTL measurement, whole genome sequencing platform, visit for blood draw, cardiometabolic risk factors, and coronary heart disease, longer LTL was associated with greater (better) LA contractile strain (β=0.29 [95% CI, 0.10-0.47]; =0.006) and LA reservoir strain (β=0.35 [95% CI, 0.12-0.59]; =0.003) but not LA conduit strain (β=0.05 [95% CI, -0.12 to 0.21]; =0.575).
Conclusions: Greater biological aging may adversely impact LA substrate independent of chronological aging.

Background: Out-of-hospital cardiac arrests (OHCAs) are a leading cause of death worldwide, yet first responder apps can significantly improve outcomes by mobilizing citizens to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation before professional help arrives. Despite their importance, limited research has examined the psychological and behavioral factors that influence individuals' willingness to adopt these apps.
Objective: Given that first responder app use involves elements of both technology adoption and preventive health behavior, it is essential to examine this behavior from multiple theoretical perspectives.

Background: Ecological momentary assessment (EMA) is increasingly being incorporated into intervention studies to acquire a more fine-grained and ecologically valid assessment of change. The added utility of including relatively burdensome EMA measures in a clinical trial hinges on several psychometric assumptions, including that these measure are (1) reliable, (2) related to but not redundant with conventional self-report measures (convergent and discriminant validity), (3) sensitive to intervention-related change, and (4) associated with a clinically relevant criterion of improvement (criterion validity) above conventional self-report measures (incremental validity).
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the reliability, validity, and sensitivity to change of conventional self-report versus EMA measures of rumination improvement.
Purpose: In Armenia, a lower-middle-income country, cancer causes 21% of all deaths, with over half of cases diagnosed at advanced stages. Without universal health insurance, patients rely on out-of-pocket payments or black-market channels for costly immunotherapies, underscoring the need for real-world data to inform equitable policy reforms.

Background And Objectives: Myelitis is a relatively common clinical entity for neurologists, with diverse underlying causes. The aim of this study was to describe the incidence of myelitis, its causes, clinical presentation, and factors predicting functional outcomes and relapses.
Methods: Using the Swedish National Patient Registry, we identified all adult patients in Stockholm County between 2008 and 2018 using International Classification of Diseases, 10th Edition (ICD-10) codes likely to include myelitis.

Background: Metastases in the lateral pelvic lymph nodes or mesenteric lymph nodes represent distinct categories of mid-low rectal cancer. This study investigated the patterns of mesenteric and lateral pelvic lymph node metastases in mid-low rectal cancer; the survival benefit of postoperative treatment was also analysed in these groups.
Methods: This retrospective multicentre study included consecutive patients with mid-low rectal cancer who underwent total mesorectal excision with lateral pelvic lymph node dissection in three Chinese institutions between 2012 and 2020.
