Importance: Shear wave elastography (SWE) is a non-invasive ultrasound technique for assessing tissue stiffness. This study examined the clinical utility of two-dimensional SWE (2D-SWE) in two dogs diagnosed with presumptive toxic hepatopathy.
Case Presentation: The first case involved a 9-year-old Pompitz that presented with anorexia, vomiting, and diarrhea following garlic and onion ingestion. Laboratory tests revealed anemia, elevated liver enzyme levels, and diabetic ketoacidosis. Ultrasonography demonstrated increased hepatic echogenicity and elevated SWE values. Despite intensive treatment, the dog's condition deteriorated, with progressive increases in liver enzyme levels and SWE values, resulting in euthanasia. The second case involved a 1-year-old Maltipoo that presented vomiting, depression, and abdominal pain, with no reported history. Laboratory findings indicated elevated liver enzyme and bile acid levels. Ultrasonography revealed increased hepatic echogenicity and SWE values. Following treatment for acute toxic hepatopathy, the dog exhibited significant improvement within 3 days, with normalization of hepatic echogenicity, SWE values, and liver enzyme levels.
Conclusions And Relevance: These cases demonstrate the clinical relevance of 2D-SWE in assessing hepatic damage, tracking therapeutic response, and informing prognosis in presumptive toxic hepatopathy.

Early postoperative seizures, defined as occurring within 7 days after surgery, are a significant complication that occurs following neurosurgical procedures involving cerebral manipulation. As a result, short-term antiseizure medication is typically administered in Japan despite the lack of consensus regarding its prophylactic use. Perampanel hydrate, an α-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid receptor antagonist, was recently introduced in an intravenous formulation in Japan, providing new potential for early postoperative seizures prevention during the perioperative period.

Increasing evidence indicates that ferroptosis contributes to the occurrence and development of metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD). This study aimed to investigate the improvement effect of plant sterol ester of α-linolenic acid (PS-ALA) on ferroptosis in hepatocytes and further elucidate the underlying molecular mechanism, focusing on the regulation of Nrf2 signaling. We found that PS-ALA ameliorated liver iron overload and reduced ROS generation and lipid peroxides (MDA and 4-HNE) production both in mice fed a high-fat diet and HepG2 cells induced by oleic acid/erastin.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Fujian Tablet (FJT), a traditional Chinese herbal compound formulation developed under the theoretical framework of "nourishing the liver and kidney, replenishing essence and marrow" , has been clinically applied for over two decades to treat post-stroke neurological deficits. Preliminary studies demonstrated its efficacy in improving motor function and promoting cervical spinal cord neuroaxonal growth in a middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) rat model. Building upon these findings, this study integrates metabolomic evidence of Foxo3a-GPX4 axis activation to systematically elucidate Fujian Tablet's neurorestorative mechanisms through three interconnected pathways: regulation of ferroptosis, promotion of oligodendrocyte proliferation, and remyelination.

Heart transplant candidates that are highly sensitized against human leukocyte antigens (HLA) face ongoing challenge in finding immunologically compatible donors. Desensitization strategies aimed at reducing HLA antibody titers have variable success rates. Imlifidase, a novel immunoglobulin G-degrading enzyme derived from Streptococcus pyogenes has been successfully used to eliminate pre-formed antibodies in sensitized kidney transplant recipients.
