Article Abstract

Leprosy is a chronic infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae (Mlep), and is classified as a tropical disease by the WHO. While prior research has documented the various phenotypes and functions of T cells and B cells in Mlep infection, the specific clonotypes of T cells and B cells that are essential for understanding the progression of multibacillary leprosy have not been reported. Here, we established a single-cell V(D)J sequencing dataset including 5 multibacillary leprosy patients (MBs) and 5 healthy individuals (HCs), aiming to generate comprehensive profiles of T-cell receptors and B-cell receptors present in the peripheral blood. This study suggested that Mlep infection has distinct selective effects on peripheral immune repertoires and that these biased immune repertoires observed in MBs have potential as biomarkers. This dataset provides very comprehensive and valuable data on the peripheral blood immune repertoire of multibacillary leprosy patients. It holds considerable importance in the clinical monitoring and management of Mlep infections, ultimately contributing to the WHO goal "Towards Zero Leprosy" by 2030.

Background: Percutaneous transthoracic lung biopsy (PTNB) guided by Computed Tomography (CT) greatly depends on the operators' skill for accuracy. This study aimed to evaluate whether three-dimensionally(3D) printed navigational templates for percutaneous transthoracic lung biopsy achieve diagnostic yield comparable to conventional computed tomography guidance.

Materials And Methods: Conducted from 1 November 2020, to 27 July 2023, this noninferiority randomized clinical trial included 159 patients with peripheral lung masses (≥30 mm).

Significance of Th1 and Th2 Cell Densities and Th1/Th2 Cytokine Profiles in Colorectal Cancer.

Cancer Epidemiol Biomarkers Prev

Translational Medicine Research Unit, Medical Research Center Oulu, Oulu University Hospital, and University of Oulu, Oulu, Finland.

Background: T-cell densities are associated with colorectal cancer outcome, but the significance of specific Th cell subsets is incompletely understood. We aimed to investigate the role of Th1 and Th2 cells and associated cytokine profiles.

Methods: We used multiplex IHC to identify Th1 and Th2 cells on tumor samples of more than 2,000 patients with colorectal cancer (three independent cohorts).

Purpose: To characterize corneal immune cell morphodynamics and nerve features, and define the in vivo immune landscape in older adults with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART), relative to healthy age-matched adults.

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 16 HIV-positive individuals receiving ART and 15 age-matched controls underwent ocular surface examinations and functional in vivo confocal microscopy (Fun-IVCM). Time-lapsed videos were created to analyze corneal immune cells (T cells, dendritic cells [DCs], macrophages).

The effect of non-functionalized polystyrene nanoparticles (PS-NPs) with diameters of 29, 44, and 72 nm on plasmid DNA integrity and the expression of genes involved in the architecture of chromatin was investigated in human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). The cells were incubated with PS-NPs at concentrations ranging from 0.001 to 100 µg/mL for 24 hours.
