Article Abstract

Cerebral microvascular disease can be triggered in people with diabetes who have chronic hyperglycemia. The aim of our study was to understand what effect diabetes has on the cerebral vasculature. In a rodent model, diabetes caused varying degrees of reduced cerebral vascular density and slowed cerebral blood flow in the brain striatum, basal forebrain, thalamus, hypothalamus, and hippocampus. There is a correlation between vessel density and blood flow velocity and the correlation changes in the diabetic state.

We present two cases highlighting novel prenatal ultrasound findings in atretic cephalocele (AC) using high-resolution ultrasound and microvascular flow imaging. This report includes the first prenatal ultrasound demonstration of key diagnostic AC features: superior sagittal sinus fenestration, observed in the parietal case, and a fibrous dural stalk, identified in both parietal and occipital cases. Both fetuses presented with a small midline scalp lesion, internal echoes, and an underlying bony defect without brain tissue herniation.

Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy, a common age-related small vessel disease leading to hemorrhagic stroke, shares many characteristics with Alzheimer's disease: toxic amyloid deposits, microvascular alterations and enlarged perivascular spaces (EPVS). Together, PVS enlargement, reduced amyloid-β clearance and further accumulation form a vicious cycle underlying disease progression. Yet, the neuropathological correlates of EPVS, including the associated angioarchitecture, are poorly understood.
