Article Abstract

Introduction: Smoking causes severe lung adenocarcinoma. High CEP55 expression correlates with clinico-pathological features, suggesting the mRNA/miRNA/lncRNA-ceRNA network's crucial to prognosis.

Methods: The study used databases like TIMER 2.0, UALCAN, OncoMX, GEPIA2, OncoDB, ENCORI, KM Plotter, TNMplot, CancerSEA, CellTracer, GENI, Intogen, miRNet, TISIDB, GSCA, the Enrichr, HDOCK, and LigPlot databases to analyze CEP55 and associated ceRNA expression in lung cancer tumors and normal tissues.

Results: The CEP55 gene is overexpressed in both lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) and adenocarcinoma (LUAD). Findings suggested that overexpression of CEP55 has a poor prognosis in terms of overall survival (OS) (HR=1.63, CI=1.44-1.84, =1.4e-15), first progression (FP) (HR=1.81, CI=1.52-2.15, =6.4e-12), and post-progression survival (PPS) (HR=1.141, CI=1.14-1.74, =00012). Particularly, high CEP55 expression is significantly associated with OS+LUAD patients (HR=1.55, CI=1.3-1.84, =7.2e-07) and those with OS+LUAD smokers (HR=1.49, CI=1.15-1.94, =0.0026). The study found a strong link between lncRNA-TMPO-AS1 overexpression and poor prognosis in LUAD+smokers, and hsa-let-7b-5p downexpression was associated with poor survival in LUAD. The least binding energy or most favourable interaction score between hsa-let-7b-5p and CEP55 was found to be -124.52 kcal/mol.

Conclusion: Smokers with lung adenocarcinoma had worse prognoses due to higher E2F1, CEP55, and TMPO-AS1 levels. Also, TMPO-AS1 sponge formation with hsa-let-7b-5p may be the cause of this feedback loop.

Background: Incontinence-associated dermatitis (IAD) is a prevalent and distressing form of irritant contact dermatitis caused by prolonged exposure to urine and/or faeces. Not all incontinent individuals develop IAD, suggesting that additional prognostic factors contribute to its onset. The quality of empirical evidence supporting risk factors for IAD development is moderate to very low.

Background: Large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) represents a rare and unique type of lung tumor with an unfavorable prognosis. It is essential to summarize the treatment modalities and prognosis for inoperable stage III and IV LCNEC, explore the role of frontline immunotherapy, and examine the stratification role of the Lung Immune Prognostic Index (LIPI) and its relationship with the tumor microenvironment (TME).

Methods: This study retrospectively analyzed 160 patients with inoperable lung LCNEC (L-LCNEC) admitted to three hospitals from December 2012 to November 2023.

Background: Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is characterized by high incidence, sudden onset, and often poor prognosis. Carotid atherosclerosis plays a crucial role in its pathogenesis, and ultrasound imaging offers a non-invasive method for evaluating carotid plaque characteristics. This study aimed to develop and validate a prediction model for AIS risk based on a novel ultrasound-based carotid plaque scoring system combined with clinical risk factors.

Secondary mitral regurgitation (SMR) remains a prevalent and challenging complication in patients with heart failure (HF), associated with poor prognosis despite optimal guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) and cardiac resynchronization therapy. Current American and European guidelines recommend GDMT as first-line therapy, with transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) reserved for severe symptomatic SMR patients who remain refractory. However, both guidelines preceded the reporting of pivotal randomized controlled trials (RESHAPE-HF2, MATTERHORN, and EFFORT) and emerging evidence in new clinical scenarios.

Background: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), the predominant form of pancreatic cancer, remains a therapeutic challenge. While GALNT4 (a member of the N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferases family) shows significant upregulation in PDAC cells, its precise oncogenic mechanisms remain poorly understood.

Methods: Bioinformatics analysis was performed to examine the expression of GALNT4 and MUC1 in pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PAAD) and to predict the glycosylation sites of MUC1.
