An important direction in MOFs is the development of materials with well-defined and ordered heterogeneity toward novel functionalities and control of important properties at the atomic scale. A great approach is the designed synthesis of mixed-metal MOFs (M'MOFs) made of different building units based on distinct metal cations. However, their in-situ formation and co-assembly into an extended crystalline framework present great challenges due to the different kinetic and thermodynamic parameters. We report the successful synthesis of two isostructural, bimetallic Zr-Ni and Hf-Ni M'MOFs following the hard and soft acid and base (HSAB) principle. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis revealed the formation of a 3D structure that features an in-situ formed [Ni(HPyC)Cl] 4-c nonplanar metallo-ligand that bridges 8-c Zr(Hf)-clusters. The resulting (4, 8)-c scu-type framework shows polygonal 1D channels, with a largest pore diameter of approximately 9 Å, decorated by Cl anions. This polar pore environment was found fully accessible, and both materials were investigated for Xe/Kr and CO/CH separation. The results are very promising, showing that the IAST selectivity calculated for a 20:80 Xe/Kr molar mixture is 8.2 and 7.1 at 298 K for the Zr_Ni-scu-MOF-1 and Hf_Ni-scu-MOF-1, respectively, which is comparable to some of the best-performing materials.

The design of a rare combination of interpenetrated and catenated 3D+2D→3D MOF {[Cd(dim)(dht)(HO)](Sol)} (1), with a unique network and extreme pH stability, has been developed for exceptional ionic conduction across a wide range of temperature and humidity conditions. The bare pore derivative of 1 (1') features remarkable structural flexibility and large pores accessible to encapsulate molecules such as NH, HCl, and KOH, enabling it to function as an efficient conductor for both proton and hydroxide ions. 1' demonstrates substantial thermal-influenced proton conductivity of 4.

We present a supramolecular templating strategy for inducing chirality in hybrid perovskites via confined crystallization within chiral super spaces-nanoconfined, helically ordered cavities formed by the self-assembly of achiral bent-core molecules with chiral additives. Upon removal of the additives, the resulting porous films retain permanent chirality. Quasi-2D hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites crystallized within these templates exhibit distinct chiroptical activity, including mirror-image circular dichroism and circularly polarized light emitting (CPLE), with CPLE dissymmetry factors reaching up to 1.

Herein, ball-milled magnetic biochar-vermiculite composite (MBC@VT) and ball-milled magnetic biochar-zeolite composite (MBC@ZT) were synthesized via one-step ball-milling, and their adsorption capacities for Pb(II)/P-nitrophenol (PNP) in water were compared. The results demonstrated that the removal of Pb(II) and PNP through both materials was a complex, endothermic reaction mainly driven by chemisorption, with strong tolerance to pH changes and co-existing ions. MBC@VT showed superior adsorption for Pb(II) (reaching 367.

Stomatal pores govern the tradeoff between CO₂ assimilation and water loss, and optimizing their performance is critical for crop resilience, particularly under dynamic field environments. Here, we show that overexpression of Triticum aestivum EPIDERMAL PATTERNING FACTOR1 (TaEPF1) in bread wheat (Triticum aestivum) reduces leaf stomatal density in a leaf surface-specific manner, with a greater decline on the abaxial surface than on the adaxial surface. TaEPF1 overexpressors exhibited substantially lower stomatal conductance than wild-type (WT) control plants, which resulted in diffusional constraints limiting photosynthesis when measured under monochromatic red light.

Recent years have witnessed growing research interest in proton-conducting metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) owing to the characteristics of highly ordered pores, oriented packing of crystals, and particularly designable structures. However, how to construct a suitable microenvironment in MOF pores to form optimal proton transport pathways remains challenging. In this study, four MOFs with similar porous diameters but different microenvironments have been screened to study how porous environments influence proton conduction for the first time.
