Metal-nitrogen-carbon (metal-N-C)-based catalysts with optimized local and external structures have received considerable attention owing to their improved activity and stability for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in fuel cells. Abundant well-defined active sites on catalysts effectively enhance ORR performances. Herein, the Fe/Co-nitrogen-carbon-graphene nanoribbons (Fe/Co-N-C-GNRs) hybrids were obtained through the growth of Fe/zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 particles on the surface of graphene oxide nanoribbons. The Fe/Co-N-C-GNRs exhibit a high electrocatalytic activity for the ORR (onset and half-wave potentials of 0.95 V and 0.83 V, respectively) and high durability, which are superior to those of 20 wt% Pt/C, suggesting Fe/Co-N-C-GNRs provide Fe-N , Co-N , and FeCo-N and GNR edge active sites. The Fe/Co-N-C-GNRs are excellent functional electrocatalytic catalysts exhibiting significant potential for fuel cell, chlor-alkali industry and lithium-oxygen battery applications.

We measured emissions from ten landfills using mobile surveys and Surface Emission Monitoring (SEM) to determine what fraction of emissions can be identified by SEM surveys. SEM is commonly used for regulatory compliance and leak detection at specific locations. However, evolving regulations emphasize the need to manage methane emissions from the entire landfill site, and the suitability of SEM for this objective remains unclear.

Rapid and convenient enrichment and detection of volatile cinnamaldehyde (Cin) from a common herbal medicine, cinnamon, was achieved through a reliable MSPE-HPLC-DAD approach. The magnetic porous carbon material (Carbon-FeC/lignin) used for MSPE was prepared as follows. First, the metal organic framework (MIL-101-NH (Fe)) was synthesized using the solvothermal method.

Dihydroorotate dehydrogenase 1B (DHOD1B) is one of several flavoproteins that utilize active half-sites. These enzymes have two flavin cofactors (FAD and FMN) that each interact with a specific reductant/oxidant substrate/product. Electrons gained at one-half-site must be transmitted to the other half-site and iron-sulfur centers between the flavin cofactors serve in this role.

Mycobacteriophage-encoded LysinB enzymes target mycolyl ester linkages in mycolyl-arabinogalactan-peptidoglycan of mycobacterium hosts and generally exhibit a globular architecture. Here, we present the structural and functional characterization of a novel Mycobacterium fortuitum prophage-encoded modular LysinB (LysinB_MF), which contains the α/β hydrolase domain and a distinct peptidoglycan-binding domain (PGBD). The enzyme's active site features the conserved Ser-Asp-His catalytic triad common to esterases and forms a funnel-like topology.

The AUA isoleucine codon is generally rare and used with varying frequency in bacterial genomes. The tRNA responsible for decoding this trinucleotide must be modified at the wobble position by tRNA lysidine synthetase (TilS) prior to aminoacylation and accommodation at the ribosome. To test the hypothesis that TilS catalytic efficiency correlates with AUA frequency, we cloned tilS genes from bacteria with varying AUA codon usage.
