Echocardiography is the first-line noninvasive cardiac imaging modality, providing rich spatio-temporal information on cardiac anatomy and physiology. Recently, foundation model trained on extensive and diverse datasets has shown strong performance in various downstream tasks. However, translating foundation models into the medical imaging domain remains challenging due to domain differences between medical and natural images, the lack of diverse patient and disease datasets. In this paper, we introduce EchoFM, a general-purpose vision foundation model for echocardiography trained on a large-scale dataset of over 20 million echocardiographic images from 6,500 patients. To enable effective learning of rich spatio-temporal representations from periodic videos, we propose a novel self-supervised learning framework based on a masked autoencoder with a spatio-temporal consistent masking strategy and periodic-driven contrastive learning. The learned cardiac representations can be readily adapted and fine-tuned for a wide range of downstream tasks, serving as a strong and flexible backbone model. We validate EchoFM through experiments across key downstream tasks in the clinical echocardiography workflow, leveraging public and multi-center internal datasets. EchoFM consistently outperforms SOTA methods, demonstrating superior generalization capabilities and flexibility. The code and checkpoints are available at: https://github.com/SekeunKim/EchoFM.git.

Background: Several clinical studies have demonstrated that Helicobacter pylori (Hp) infection may exacerbate the progression of Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD); however, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. This study aims to investigate the characterization of the gastric microbiome and metabolome in relation to the progression of MASLD induced by Hp infection.
Methods: We established a high-fat diet (HFD) obese mouse model, both with and without Hp infection, to compare alterations in serum and liver metabolic phenotypes.

Background: Evidence from multiple pilots and post-introduction scale-up initiatives have demonstrated that self-administered subcutaneous depot-medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA-SC) has potential to improve contraceptive continuation rates and expand contraceptive access to populations with limited utilization of facility-based health services. Only a few of these studies have been conducted in South Asian countries, and none where most contraceptive use is of non-hormonal methods that require limited to no contact with the health system, leaving policymakers in countries like Pakistan with limited context-specific evidence to guide decisions on whether, how, and for whom to introduce DMPA-SC.
Methods: A prospective cohort study will be conducted in 41 health facilities and surrounding communities in Punjab, Pakistan.

Objectives: Juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM) is a heterogeneous autoimmune condition needing targeted treatment approaches and improved understanding of molecular mechanisms driving clinical phenotypes. We utilised exploratory proteomics from a longitudinal North American cohort of patients with new-onset JDM to identify biological pathways at disease onset and follow-up, tissue-specific disease activity, and myositis-specific autoantibody (MSA) status.
Methods: We measured 3072 plasma proteins (Olink panel) in 56 patients with JDM within 12 weeks of starting treatment (from the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance Registry and 3 additional sites) and 8 paediatric controls.

Methods: Using 800 mediolateral oblique (MLO) images, we developed an AI model (Mask Generation Model) for automatic extraction of three regions: the pectoralis major muscle, the mammary gland region, and the nipple. Using this model, we extracted three regions from 1544 MLO images and generated mask images.
