Background: Pulmonary metastases of giant cell tumor of bone (GCTB) are rare and typically occur within several years of initial diagnosis or local recurrence. Here, we report a case with the longest documented interval-29 years-between the last local recurrence of GCTB and pulmonary metastasis, highlighting the need for long-term surveillance.
Case Presentation: A 52-year-old female presented with an incidental pulmonary nodule detected 29 years after wide resection of recurrent GCTB in the left humeral head. Initial suspicion of primary lung cancer led to thoracoscopic lobectomy, which identified the nodule as a giant cell tumor through histopathological examination. Immunohistochemistry confirmed the diagnosis. This case emphasizes the potential for extremely delayed metastases of GCTB, likely due to the slow-growing nature of metastatic lesions. The findings underscore the challenges of distinguishing metastatic GCTB from primary lung cancers, which may result in overtreatment.
Conclusion: This report underscores the necessity of long-term surveillance for high-risk GCTB patients, even decades after treatment. It also highlights the unique biology of GCTB metastases, warranting further research into mechanisms and tailored management strategies.

Elastic tethers connect telomeres of separating chromosomes in anaphase of animal cells. Immunofluorescence staining of titin in crane-fly spermatocytes, using 4 different antibodies, shows that the giant elastic protein titin seems to be a component of mitotic tethers: titin "strands" extend between separating chromosomes, connecting their telomeres, just as tethers do. Since titin is responsible for elastic forces in myofibrils, we suggest that titin is responsible for the backwards forces exerted on chromosome arms during anaphase.

Transmembrane signaling is essential for cellular communication, yet reconstituting such mechanisms in synthetic systems remains challenging. Here, we report a simple and robust DNA-based mechanism for transmembrane signaling in synthetic cells using cholesterol-modified single-stranded DNA (Chol-ssDNA). We discovered that anchored Chol-ssDNA spontaneously flips across the membrane of giant unilamellar lipid vesicles (GUVs) in a nucleation-driven, defect-mediated process.

Splenic pseudocysts represent an uncommon condition in abdominal surgery, generally resulting from trauma, infection, or ischemic processes. Histologically, they are characterized by the absence of an epithelial lining; that is, they lack the inner layer of cells typically found in true cysts. Ferroelectric tunnel junctions (FTJs) based on ferroelectric switching and quantum tunneling effects with thickness down to a few unit cells have been explored for applications of two-dimensional (2D) electronic devices in data storage and neural networks. As a key performance indicator, the enhanced tunneling electrosistance (TER) ratio provides a broader dynamic range for precise modulation of synaptic weights, improving the stability and accuracy of neural networks. Herein, we report an observation of pronounced enhancement in the TER ratio by over 4 orders of magnitude through the fabrication of large-scale heterostructures combining bismuth ferrite with two-dimensional Ruddlesden-Popper oxide BiFeO.
