Many tasks in forensic examination of handwritten documents require classification of writing instruments that have ink of similar properties as the ink found on a questioned document. In this paper, we propose a new methodology for non-destructive identification of inks based on optical properties and reflectance spectra of the ink, measured from handwriting strokes. Building on this methodology, we developed an interactive database that we call the "Pen Ink Library", which lists 718 various writing instruments and enables systematic comparison and semi-automatic search of writing instruments, using the measured characteristics of their ink. To highlight the significance and applicability of the database, we additionally exploit the large amounts of collected measurements to design computer-based data analysis methods for classification and comparative analysis of ink samples. For validation of the semi-automatic search functionality of the Pen Ink Library we performed a series of blind tests using twenty randomly selected writing instruments. Here, an instrument with the same brand and model was found in nine cases, and an instrument with a different brand and model, but with identical spectrum and optical parameters, was found in five cases. Cross-validation of the computer-based data analysis methods on the measurements from the database yielded above 90% accuracy of the classification method and 5.3% to 12.7% error rate of the comparative analysis method.

Background: Children with congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV) have a wide spectrum of possible neurodevelopmental outcomes.
Objectives: To describe neurodevelopmental (ND) Phenotypes of children with cCMV based on medical, developmental, and behavioral outcomes in childhood, and examine whether birth characteristics were associated with ND Phenotype.
Methods: Caregivers of children with cCMV (N = 242, child aged 12 months to <11 years) completed survey instruments reporting on the child's birth characteristics, reasons for cCMV testing, and present medical, developmental, and behavioral status.

DNA data storage is a promising alternative to conventional storage due to high density, low energy consumption, durability, and ease of replication. While information can be encoded into DNA via synthesis, high costs and the lack of rewriting capability limit its applications beyond archival storage. Emerging "hard drive" strategies seek to encode data onto universal DNA templates without de novo synthesis, using methods such as DNA nanostructures and base modifications.

Aims: This retrospective observational study aimed to determine the in vivo joint loads in the knee after total knee arthroplasty during early postoperative rehabilitation involving different physiotherapy exercises and to analyze how these loads change over the first three weeks postoperatively.
Methods: Nine patients (six males, three females) with a primary instrumented total knee replacement participated in the study. A total of 19 selected physical therapy exercises of varying load levels were performed on the ninth (SD 3) and 21st (SD 6) postoperative day.

Background And Purpose: Reducing the dose rate enhances efficacy in radiation therapy by allowing increased repair of sub-lethal damage. Pulsed low-dose radiation therapy (PLDR) is an innovative approach that is safe and effective for the reirradiation of recurrent gliomas and radioresistant tumors. In this study, the accuracy of the low dose rate volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) delivery is tested in an Elekta Versa HD linear accelerator (linac) for delivering PLDR.

Aims: Short, uncemented hip stems might provide a favourable alternative in total hip arthroplasty (THA) by preserving proximal bone mass through reduced strain-adaptive remodelling. We evaluated and compared the migration and periprosthetic bone remodelling of a short stem with and without a collar, using radiostereometric analysis (RSA) to measure implant migration and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) to evaluate periprosthetic bone remodelling. In this study we present ten-year follow-up results, completing previously published two- and five-year RSA and DXA studies.
