As a critical global public health concern, food safety has prompted substantial strategic advancements in detection technologies to safeguard human health. Integrated intelligent sensing systems, incorporating advanced information perception and computational intelligence, have emerged as rapid, user-friendly, and cost-effective solutions through the synergy of multisource sensors and smart computing. This review systematically examines the fundamental principles of intelligent sensing technologies, including optical, electrochemical, machine olfaction, and machine gustatory systems, along with their practical applications in detecting microbial, chemical, and physical hazards in food products. The review analyzes the current state and future development trends of intelligent perception from 3 core aspects: sensing technology, signal processing, and modeling algorithms. Driven by technologies such as machine learning and blockchain, intelligent sensing technology can ensure food safety throughout all stages of food processing, storage, and transportation, and provide support for the traceability and authenticity identification of food. It also presents current challenges and development trends associated with intelligent sensing technologies in food safety, including novel sensing materials, edge-cloud computing frameworks, and the co-design of energy-efficient algorithms with hardware architectures. Overall, by addressing current limitations and harnessing emerging innovations, intelligent sensing technologies are poised to establish a more resilient, transparent, and proactive framework for safeguarding food safety across global supply chains.

Building localized states with high quality factors in compact dynamic systems could enhance the performance of wave control devices such as elastic filters and high-precision sensing devices. Here, we report on the theoretical and experimental investigation of symmetry-protected bound states in the continuum (BICs) in a compressed metaplate. The proposed theory establishes a Bessel-zero-directed multipolarization design that enables precise modulation for the frequencies and modes of BICs.

Embodied intelligence in soft robotics offers unprecedented capabilities for operating in uncertain, confined, and fragile environments that challenge conventional technologies. However, achieving true embodied intelligence-which requires continuous environmental sensing, real-time control, and autonomous decision-making-faces challenges in energy management and system integration. We developed deformation-resilient flexible batteries with enhanced performance under magnetic fields inherently present in magnetically actuated soft robots, with capacity retention after 200 cycles improved from 31.

Continuous monitoring of cardiovascular vital signs can reduce the incidence and mortality of cardiovascular diseases, yet cannot be implemented by current technologies because of device bulkiness and rigidity. Here, we report self-adhesive and skin-conformal ultrasonic transducer arrays that enable wearable monitoring of multiple hemodynamic parameters without interfering with daily activities. A skin-adaptive focused ultrasound method with rational array design is proposed to implement measurement under wide ranges of skin curvatures and depths with improved sensing performances.

The in-depth integration of gene regulation with protein modulation can enhance cellular information processing, yet it is significantly constrained by ineffective and complex protein-to-gene transduction strategies. Herein, we developed a simple protease-guided autocatalytic gene silencing platform named iPAD (intelligent peptide-programmed deoxyribonuclease) that converts the protease recognition events into versatile DNA readout signals by rationally designing a native protease-responsive cationic peptide (PP) to efficiently modulate the DNAzyme (Dz) activity. Without requiring additional chemical modifications, the multifunctional PP regulator consists simply of one cell-specific targeting peptide segment and two cationic peptide segments isolated by one protease-specific peptide substrate.
