Linear anionic surfactants (LAS) pose significant stress to microbial denitrification in wastewater treatment. This study investigated the performance and adaptation mechanisms of heterotrophic nitrification-aerobic denitrification (HN-AD) microbial consortia under LAS exposure after short-term (SCM, 2 months) and long-term (LCM, 6 months) acclimation. Results showed a dose-dependent inhibition of total nitrogen (TN) removal, with LCM achieving 97.40% TN removal under 300 mg/L LAS, which was 16.89% higher than SCM. Biochemical assays indicated that LCM exhibited lower reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, a higher ATP content, and reduced LDH release, suggesting enhanced oxidative stress resistance and membrane stability. EPS secretion also increased in LCM, contributing to environmental tolerance. Metagenomic analysis revealed that long-term acclimation enriched key genera including , , and , which maintained higher expression of denitrification (e.g., , ) and ammonium assimilation genes (, ). Although high LAS concentrations reduced overall community diversity and led to convergence between SCM and LCM structures, LCM retained greater functional capacity and stress resistance. These findings underscore the importance of acclimation in sustaining denitrification performance under surfactant pressure and offer valuable insights for engineering robust microbial consortia in complex wastewater environments.

Linear carbon cluster anions, such as C6-, have been considered to be promising candidate interstellar molecules. Recent experiments have demonstrated that in a collision-free vacuum environment, C6- exhibits fast radiative cooling from its highly vibrationally excited states through inverse internal conversion (IIC). Since IIC is driven by vibronic coupling, the understanding of vibronic structures of C6- is of theoretical significance.

In this work, carbon nanodots (CNDs) were synthesized via a pyrolysis carbonization method using petals. The synthesized CNDs exhibit optical absorption in the UV region, with a tail extending out into the visible range. When these CNDs interact with Ho ions through charge transfer processes, they form an RE-CNDs hybrid (Rare Earth-CNDs hybrid), resulting in fluorescence quenching in an aqueous solution.

Water-ion interactions govern the physicochemical properties of aqueous solutions, impacting the structure of the hydrogen bonding network and ion diffusivities. To elucidate these effects under alkaline conditions relevant to diverse application spaces, we examined NaOD-DO solutions using two-dimensional infrared spectroscopy (2D-IR), small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR). Vibrational energy transfer between the donor anion SeCN, used as a 2D-IR probe, and the acceptor anion OD was used to track the average separation distance of ions in the DO solutions, while SAXS and NMR experiments measured the structure of the bulk DO solvent.

Rare-earth ions have garnered significant attention due to their large ionic radii and unique electronic configurations. In this study, two scandium-based pyrophosphates, ASc(PO) (A = Ba, Pb), were successfully synthesized by using a high-temperature melting method. They are the first reported examples of divalent cations binding to scandium-based pyrophosphates.
