Less hazardous alternatives to soil fumigants for suppressing soilborne pathogens, such as pathogenic isolates within the () species complex that cause black root rot of strawberry, are urgently needed. A promising alternative is anaerobic soil disinfestation (ASD), in which anaerobic fermentation is induced in soil, leading to production of pathogen-suppressing reduced metal cations (Fe, Mn) and volatile fatty acids (VFAs) before planting. However, little is known about how interactions between amendment composition, soil texture, and neutral to alkaline soil pH influences suppression via soil biogeochemistry. Suppression of was investigated in soil-based ASD incubation mesocosm trials in which -inoculated soils with initial neutral pH (sand, sandy loam, and silty clay) were amended with lime (0.1% CaCO) or unamended, and amended (1% wt/wt) with five amendment mixtures of soybean protein isolate and dried molasses (100/0, 75/25, 50/50, 25/75, or 0/100%) for a range of protein/carbohydrate ratios (0.1:1 to 32:1) to initiate ASD treatments. Post-ASD, soil chemical properties were measured, including VFA and Fe/Mn concentrations, and inoculum viability was assessed. Total soil VFA and Fe/Mn concentrations were influenced by ASD amendment composition and soil texture, with the highest VFA concentrations resulting from high protein amendments and the highest Mn concentrations observed in sandy loam and silty clay soils. viability was reduced in all amended treatments, but finer soil textures were associated with lower suppression. Our results highlight the importance of soil texture and amendment composition in influencing ASD effectiveness in neutral to alkaline soils.

Pollutants from industrial emissions and traffic accumulate in urban soils as road dust, carrying heavy metals (HMs) posing ecological and health risks. Magnetic susceptibility (MS), sensitive to ferromagnetic minerals, enables rapid HM contamination assessment. This study developed the Modified Dual-Threshold MS Evaluation Plot for Soil Contamination (M-Plot) using χ and χ% indices.

Black morel (Morchella sextelata) is widely regarded as a post-fire mushroom because of its prolific fruiting in post-fire forest soils enriched with charcoal. Intriguingly, artificial cultivation of M. sextelata often incorporates biochar as a soil amendment to enhance yield, although the underlying physicochemical and ecological mechanisms remain unclear.

This study presents the first experimental evidence of biochar (BC) aerosol generation via raindrop impact on amended soils, combining controlled rainfall simulations with year-long field monitoring of atmospheric particulates from a BC-treated plot (2.0 wt%). Microscopic and isotopic analyses confirmed BC incorporation in total suspended particles (TSP), accounting for 15.

Introduction: Interleukin-1 receptor-associated kinase 4 (IRAK4) is expressed in various immune cells and regulates proinflammatory cytokine production. Its inhibition represents a novel, promising therapeutic option in the treatment of atopic dermatitis (AD). Zabedosertib (BAY1834845) is a potent, selective IRAK4 inhibitor that suppresses markers of local and systemic immune responses.

This research examined if sibship composition (birth order and sibling sex ratio) was associated with sexual orientation among Iranian participants who varied in their gender identity/expression. Previous research shows that androphilic males tend to have more older brothers, a pattern known as the fraternal birth order effect (FBOE). Recent findings have also highlighted the possible relationship between number of older sisters and male androphilia, a pattern known as the sororal birth order effect (SBOE).
