Vitexin and isovitexin, as the two of representative flavonoid C-glycosides, are naturally occurring bioactive compounds predominantly found in food plants. Their multiple pharmacological activities have generated a lot of interest in their application in disease management. However, as isomers, vitexin and isovitexin show differences between them in various aspects. To achieve their personalized application in precision nutrition, further research is needed to reveal their differences. Based on the various sources and distribution of vitexin and isovitexin, the advantages and limitations of various green advanced extraction technologies are discussed to improve their purity and activity. Furthermore, vitexin and isovitexin exhibit shared and diverse health benefits from the perspective of in vitro and in vivo research reports. This review contributes to a better understanding of the sustainable production of natural vitexin and isovitexin based on their differences, thus promoting the personalized application of them in the functional foods or pharmaceutical industries.

Background: Mung bean has a long history as a legume used for both food and medicine, and contains biologically active substances such as vitexin, so it is critical to study the molecular mechanism of vitexin synthesis and metabolism in mung bean for biofortification. In this study, four mung bean varieties (LL655, SH-1, ZL-5, and ZL-13) with different seed coat colors were chosen to study the dynamic change patterns of the content of vitexin-like compounds and the key genes of their anabolic pathways during mung bean seed development, and the antioxidant activity was evaluated to reveal the nutritious profiles of mung bean seeds during development.
Results: Results showed that the contents of both vitexin and isovitexin gradually increased with seed maturation, with vitexin being the most abundant characteristic phenolics.

(Euphorbiaceae) is an indigenous vegetable that has been used in southern Thai traditional medicine and cuisine. A bioassay-guided approach was adopted to investigate the phytochemicals and chemopreventive potential of leaves and stems. Phytochemical investigation of the active MeOH fractions afforded six known compounds, including caffeic acid (), isovitexin (), and vicenins 1-3 () from leaves and hexadecanoic acid methyl ester () from stems.

: Vitexin and isovitexin are bioactive flavonoids with promising pharmacological effects; however, they have poor bioavailability. Microencapsulation with biodegradable polymers is a promising strategy for improving their stability, bioavailability, and biocompatibility. This study aimed to optimize the formulation parameters to obtain microspheres with desired properties in terms of size, loading ratio, and vitexin-isovitexin release.
