Monitoring the redox status in vivo is important for maintaining redox homeostasis and understanding related pathological processes. In this study, based on an interfacial self-assembly method, a silver-coated nylon film (Nylon66-Ag) was prepared as a SERS substrate and a single-molecule specific SERS probe, 2-mercapto-1,4-diphenol (2-MHQ), was modified on the silver nanoparticles for sensitive detection of HO and AA in human serum. Remarkably, this method, without the introduction of internal standard signaling molecules, only one Raman signaling reporter molecule, 2-MHQ, was able to sensitively detect HO and AA, and thus monitor the redox reactions in human serum, with LODs as low as 4.03 × 10 M for HO and 9.42 × 10 M for AA. The detection limits are significantly lower than the concentration ranges of endogenous HO and AA in the blood of healthy individuals. The SERS strategy proposed in this paper is expected to be used to study signaling pathways related to redox kinetics.

Monoclonal gammopathy-associated myopathies (MGAMs) are rare yet treatable myopathies that occur in association with monoclonal gammopathies. These myopathies include light chain (AL) amyloidosis myopathy, sporadic late-onset nemaline myopathy (SLONM), scleromyxedema with associated myopathy, and newly reported monoclonal gammopathy-associated glycogen storage myopathy (MGGSM), including the vacuolar myopathy with monoclonal gammopathy and stiffness. All these 4 distinct subtypes of MGAMs typically present in patients aged 40 or older, frequently with a subacute onset of rapidly progressive proximal and axial muscle weakness.

The onset of puberty is increasingly observed at earlier ages in children, especially in girls with obesity, a trend that predisposes them to long-term metabolic and reproductive disorders in adulthood. Bile acids have emerged as pivotal signaling molecules in both metabolic and reproductive disorders, but remain unexplored in the early onset of puberty in children. Herein, we find elevated levels of muricholic acid (MCA) species in the serum of girls with central precocious puberty, which strongly correlate with indices of hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis activation and can reach peak levels during puberty among healthy children.

Microsporidia causes opportunistic infections in immunosuppressed individuals. Mammals shed these spores of fungi in feces, urine, or respiratory secretions, which could contaminate water and food, thereby reaching the human body and causing infection. The oral route is the most common route of infection, although experiments have demonstrated that intraperitoneal and intravenous routes may also spread infection.

Background: Antimicrobial resistance is a globally recognised public health threat. In rural China, antibiotic use is common for acute respiratory infections (ARIs), which include symptoms such as coughing and fever that are most likely viral infections but with a small proportion as bacterial infections. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a comprehensive intervention based on C-reactive protein and serum amyloid A point-of-care testing (CRP&SAA POCT) in reducing the inappropriate use of antibiotics for ARIs in Chinese village clinics.

Objective: To describe the normative serum cortisol levels during 25-29 weeks of POG and the association of maternal, psychological, and social factors on serum cortisol in the second and third trimesters in a cohort of pregnant women.
Methods: All eligible pregnant women registered in the maternal care program in Anuradhapura district, Sri Lanka, from July to September 2019 were invited to the Rajarata Pregnancy Cohort (RaPCo). An interviewer-administered questionnaire-based symptom analysis and clinical assessment were conducted at baseline in the first trimester and at follow-up from 25 to 29 weeks POG.
