Article Abstract

Human psychological adaptation to indoor thermal conditions, particularly through perceived control, is increasingly recognized for its potential to influence building energy consumption. Despite this, its quantifiable impact remains unexplored. Here, we conducted a field survey (n = 922) using air conditioning (AC) access as a variable to examine how perceived control mediates occupants' thermal adaptation during summer. The perceived control levels of occupants were collected in the form of voting. Before the installation of AC, improved perceived control mitigated thermal sensation in warm environments (> 30.5 ℃). After being granted operational rights to AC, the tolerance of the occupants to the warm environment increased. Using DesignBuilder and EnergyPlus, we modeled and simulated building energy consumption, revealing that increased perceived control could reduce cooling-related carbon emissions by up to 46.6% per day. This study highlights the role of psychological factors in energy sustainability within built environments.

Misophonia is a condition characterized by intense negative emotional reactions to trigger sounds and related stimuli. In this study, adult listeners (N = 15) with a self-reported history of misophonia symptoms and a control group without misophonia (N = 15) completed listening judgements of recorded misophonia trigger stimuli using a standard scale. Participants also completed an established questionnaire of misophonia symptoms, the Misophonia Questionnaire (MQ).

Postdiction is a perceptual phenomenon where the perception of an earlier stimulus is influenced by a later one. This effect is commonly studied using the 'rabbit illusion', in which temporally regular, but spatially irregular, stimuli are perceived as equidistant. While previous research has focused on short inter-stimulus intervals (100-200 ms), the role of longer intervals, which may engage late attentional processes, remains unexplored.

Eye tracking has the potential to be used as a meaningful measure of the consequences of vision impairment (VI), yet a comprehensive test battery is lacking. In this study, we sought to evaluate the feasibility and validity of a test battery of eye movements as a tool to measure visual performance in individuals with VI.
