High-profile studies conducted in Global South (GS) countries with few, or no GS authors are published frequently, underrepresenting GS researchers in local high-impact publications. Here, we reiterate the importance of conducting equitable research, valuing GS researchers as equal contributors, and propose pathways to decolonize science.

The study investigates the long-term effects of the 2015 Fundão tailings dam collapse in Brazil, focusing on metal accumulation in soil, plants and its implications for ecosystem recovery. The research, conducted between 2021 and 2024, analyzed 3311 individuals from areas directly and indirectly affected by the dam collapse, as well as from non-affected areas, integrating geochemical, spatial, and temporal analyses. Metal concentration and cellular damage were evaluated in roots and leaves.

Objective: Severity and outcome of stroke may be associated with a concomitant or subsequent inflammatory response. C-reactive protein (CRP) may correlate with length of stay (LOS) in hospital, indicating increased complexity of stroke patients with an ongoing inflammatory reaction upon admission.
Methods: This retrospective cross-sectional study used data from admissions to the non-comprehensive Stroke Unit, which receives patients ineligible for revascularization therapy at Herlev-Gentofte hospital, in 2019 and 2020.

Aim: This study aims to evaluate the effects of bupivacaine on acute kidney injury (AKI) through kidney function parameters and cardiac tissue damage via TRPM2, HSP70, TLR4, NF-κB, and TNF-α biomarkers.
Material And Method: Male Wistar albino rats were divided into 4 groups, with seven rats in each group: Control group, AKI group (kidney damage induced by glycerol), AKI + L group (group treated with bupivacaine), and L group (group treated with bupivacaine alone). At the end of the experiment, kidney and heart tissues were collected for histological analysis, and serum samples were taken for biochemical analysis.

Prototheca, a genus of opportunistic pathogenic microalgae, can cause protothecosis in humans and animals, manifesting as cutaneous lesions or disseminated/systemic infections. This report describes a rare case of Prototheca wickerhamii toe infection in a 78-year-old Chinese male, presenting initially as gouty arthritis. The patient, who worked in fish farming with frequent water exposure, had a history of herpes zoster and hypertension.

Pulmonary endothelial injury is a critical factor in the pathogenesis and progression of coal pneumoconiosis. However, the precise mechanisms underlying this injury remain poorly understood. To address this, we established a coal pneumoconiosis mouse model by chronic intranasal coal dust exposure over 9 months.
