Growth disturbances in bivalve shells are widely observed in both fossil and modern species, yet the conditions and mechanisms driving their formation remain unclear. Through controlled experiments on Mimachlamys nobilis, we demonstrate that abrupt intra-annual temperature fluctuations (≥5 °C) induce shell growth disturbances by altering the energy budget, diverting resources from shell growth to stress responses. Under ≥5 °C fluctuations (Groups C and D), 67 % of the individuals exhibited shell thinning, reduced growth rates, and formed growth disturbance lines (Groups C and D), whereas <5 °C fluctuations (Groups A and B) caused disturbances in only 12 % of the cases. These bivalve growth disturbances serve as a sensitive bio-indicator of short-term temperature fluctuations, providing a novel tool for reconstructing intra-annual level marine climatic fluctuations in deep time.

Tropical rainforests support critical biogeochemical cycles regulated by complex plant-soil microbial interactions but are threatened by global change. Much of the uniquely biodiverse and carbon rich forest on Borneo has been lost through extensive conversion to monoculture plantation, and a significant proportion of the remaining forest has been heavily modified by selective logging. Ecological restoration of tropical forest aims to return forests to a near pristine state, but restoration initiatives are hindered by limited understanding of the underpinning plant-soil feedbacks, and impacts on soil microbial communities are unresolved.

Background: Carotid web (CaW) is a rare fibromuscular dysplasia lesion at the carotid bifurcation linked to thromboembolic events in young patients. CaW-induced hemodynamic disturbances contribute to thrombosis, but the impact of CaW morphology on long-term thrombotic risk remains unclear.
Method: This study developed three-dimensional numerical models based on patient-specific carotid artery anatomy with CaW angles of 30°, 60°, and 90° (models A, B, and C).

This study evaluated the efficacy of Eucalyptus globulus essential oil (EEO) supplementation in attenuating ascites incidence and physiological disturbances in broiler chickens exposed to a cold-induced pulmonary hypertension syndrome model. A total of 720 one-day-old male Ross 308 chicks were randomly assigned to six dietary treatments, each with six replicates of 20 birds. The thermoneutral control group received a basal diet under standard conditions (32°C on day 1, gradually reduced to 23°C by day 20 and maintained until day 42; relative humidity [RH] 50-60 %), whereas the remaining five groups were exposed to cold stress (temperature reduced by 4°C/day from day 11 until reaching 15°C, then maintained at 10-15°C until day 42, RH 55-65 %) to induce ascites, and were fed the basal diet supplemented with 0, 500, 1000, 1500, or 2000 mg/kg EEO.

Regulated protein degradation by Clp proteases is a highly conserved post-translational control mechanism in bacteria. In Staphylococcus aureus, the ClpXP complex targets the peptidoglycan hydrolase Sle1, maintaining a tightly regulated balance between peptidoglycan biosynthesis and hydrolysis, which is required to ensure proper cell splitting without compromising cell integrity. β-lactams antibiotics disturb this balance, leading to their bactericidal effects.
