: Pathological vertebral fragility (path-VF) increases the risk of osteoporotic fractures and pedicle screw loosening (PSL) after posterior instrumented spinal fusion (PISF). While WHO body mass index (BMI) categories broadly identify risks related to underweight and obesity, fixed thresholds may inadequately reflect vertebral fragility risks among elderly patients, especially within the normal-weight range. This study investigates whether current BMI classifications sufficiently capture the risk of path-VF in older adults.

Plasma drug concentrations have historically played a central role in pharmacology, serving as a measurable intermediary between administered dose and clinical response. This model, linking Dose, Concentration and Effect, underpins therapeutic drug monitoring, pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) modeling, and regulatory evaluation. Yet, numerous examples challenge the assumption that plasma concentrations are necessary or sufficient to predict drug effects.

The Subjective Units of Distress Scale (SUDS) is a widely used self-report measure clinicians rely on during exposure and response prevention (ERP) to monitor progress, guide exposure pacing, and assess intervention efficacy. However, despite its ubiquity in clinical and research settings, foundational investigations of its psychometrics are often atheoretical, fail to evaluate its longitudinal properties, and lack a rigorous construct validation framework. This paper addresses these shortcomings by evaluating the SUDS as a measure of state negative affective intensity using the Strong Program of Construct Validation.

The evolution of phenotype has historically been studied by classifying traits into categories, as traits within each category often exhibit close associations. However, these categories are not independent of one another. Thus, the phenotype may function as an integrated set of traits rather than as isolated units.

Planning, or the ability to simulate and execute a sequence of steps toward a goal, is integral for success in a range of activities, from cooking a meal to developing a new software program. Indeed, robust planning abilities have been found to predict success in math for children and the maintenance of independence in older adults. Due to the significant real-world impact of developing and sustaining strong planning abilities over the lifetime, bolstering these skills through training could prove highly beneficial for a host of life outcomes.
