: Pathological vertebral fragility (path-VF) increases the risk of osteoporotic fractures and pedicle screw loosening (PSL) after posterior instrumented spinal fusion (PISF). While WHO body mass index (BMI) categories broadly identify risks related to underweight and obesity, fixed thresholds may inadequately reflect vertebral fragility risks among elderly patients, especially within the normal-weight range. This study investigates whether current BMI classifications sufficiently capture the risk of path-VF in older adults.

Purpose: Multiple myeloma (MM), a type of B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma, frequently causes osteolytic spinal lesions, increasing the risk of fracture and poor sagittal spinopelvic alignment. In relapsed patients, these changes may contribute to increased pain and functional impairment.

Methods: The clinical data of 86 MM patients (48 males, 38 females) who underwent ≥ 3 whole-body CT scans between 2009 and 2024, with a mean interscan interval of 19.

Introduction: Patients with primary hip osteoarthritis undergoing unilateral total hip arthroplasty (THA) often face uncertainty about the future need for arthroplasty in the contralateral hip. Safety of Intraoperative Cell Salvage in Two-Stage Revision of Septic Hip Arthroplasties.

(1) Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety of intraoperative cell salvage (ICS) during reimplantation in the two-stage revision of septic hip arthroplasties. (2) Methods: As part of an internal quality control study, blood cultures were taken from the processed ICS blood during reimplantation and examined for possible bacterial load (study group). Due to a high rate of bacterial detection with uncertain clinical significance, consecutive ICS samples were also examined from patients undergoing aseptic revision hip arthroplasty (control group).

Introduction: Femoral stem subsidence is a known complication after uncemented total hip arthroplasty (THA). (1) Background: intraoperative cell salvage (ICS) devices can provide a valuable contribution to patient blood management. An infection of the surgical site presents a formal contraindication to the use of ICS. To date, there is no recommendation for the use of ICS in the context of reimplantation in two-stage septic exchange arthroplasty.
