Mediterranean ecosystems have been grazed by livestock for thousands of years. While considered both a major anthropogenic stressor and a potential habitat conservation tool, the effects of livestock grazing on vertebrate populations remain poorly understood. Our study focused on goat and sheep grazing on a large island off the coast of Greece in order to shed light on (1) the nature of the relationship between livestock grazing and vertebrate assemblages, and (2) the mediating mechanisms.

Clonal expansions of hematopoietic cells carrying mosaic chromosomal alterations (mCAs) are commonly detectable in elderly individuals. Here, we studied 43,617 autosomal mCAs that we ascertained in 484,081 UK Biobank participants using new, high-resolution computational methods to analyze blood-derived whole-genome sequencing data. Shorter mCAs (≤1 Mb) clustered at 53 genomic hotspots (34 previously undetected), several of which implicated chromosomal fragile sites as a recurrent source of somatic deletions.

The landscape consists of a mosaic of interacting ecosystem elements, which maintain stability and aid in sustaining crucial services. Unplanned developmental activities leading to the transition of pervious surfaces into impervious/paved surfaces have significant implications for the urban climate, mainly through the phenomenon of urban heat islands (UHIs). Changes in landscape integrity could be quantified through land use (land cover) assessment and urban heat island effect through spatial computation of land surface temperature (LST).

Objective: To investigate the clinical phenotype and genotype features of children with Epileptic encephalopathy caused by PCDH19 mutations.
Methods: Four children with epilepsy caused by PCDH19 gene mutations who were treated at Shanghai Children's Medical Center from August 2015 to May 2024 were selected as study subjects. A retrospective study method was used to collect the clinical data of the patients.

Climate change has the scope to significantly modulate the distribution of floral and faunal taxa, with those regions persistently suitable to a population through the largest environmental perturbations termed "refugia". Within Africa, focus has been placed on forest refugia during glacial cycles as hotspots of biodiversity, whilst refugia for savannah species have been overlooked. We compiled a comprehensive dataset of baboon occurrences and fitted species distribution model ensembles to predict the present potential habitable range of each species and the genus as a whole.
