Article Abstract

The tropical plant is known to produce cyclopenta[]benzofuran and other types of rocaglate derivatives including silvestrol () and 5‴-episilvestrol () that are of current pharmacological interest. In the present work, further investigation of roots collected in Vietnam has yielded two new rocaglate acetonide derivatives ( and ) and a known pentanor-3,4--dammarane triterpenoid () found for the first time as a natural product, in addition to four known rocaglates (-). The structures of compounds and were confirmed by partial synthesis experiments, and their potential occurrence as extraction artifacts was investigated by targeted selective ion monitoring using UHPLC-MS. All compounds obtained were evaluated against a panel of four human cancer cell lines, in which the six rocaglate derivatives (-) tested all showed submicromolar potencies.

Facing hard truths: Medical education's reckoning with settler colonialism in an era of reconciliation.

Med Educ

September 2025

Continuing Professional Development and Medical Education, Faculty of Medicine, Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Introduction: Medical schools are responsible for embedding Indigenous health education across the training continuum. Central to this work is recognising settler colonialism as an ongoing structure that privileges non-Indigenous peoples while producing and sustaining inequities for Indigenous communities. This paper explores key learning moments as non-Indigenous medical learners and faculty reflect on their experiences within systems that promote reconciliation yet remain largely rooted in colonial logic.

Dataset of rice growth for saline-alkaline tolerance screening.

Data Brief

October 2025

Graduate School of Integrated Sciences for Life, Hiroshima University, Higashi-Hiroshima, Hiroshima, 739-8528, Japan.

This dataset exhibits the growth profile of multiple rice varieties, most of which include world or Japanese rice core collections, under saline-alkaline conditions through two screenings. In both the first and second screenings, the rice plants were hydroponically cultivated for 4 weeks under normal conditions and then subjected to control or saline-alkaline conditions for 2 weeks. In the first screening, dry weight, dry weight ratio, and SPAD values were measured, and candidate varieties possessing saline-alkaline tolerance (7 varieties) or sensitivity (3 varieties) were selected based on the dry weight ratio.

Individual belief in a rigid definition of gender underlies significant social costs, from the gender pay gap, violence and discrimination against transgender and gender diverse people, to global economic losses. These beliefs are often rooted in essentialist thinking that gender is distinct, non-overlapping, unchangeable, and biologically based. Gender is a multidimensional social concept, partly informed by perceptions of sex, which is a distinct concept referring to a collection of biological traits.

Introduction: Mental health stigma remains a major barrier to accessing psychiatric care worldwide, with pronounced effects in culturally traditional societies such as Peshawar, Pakistan. In the Pashtun cultural context, the code of Pashtunwali-an honor-based system-shapes social attitudes and behaviors, potentially influencing mental health help-seeking patterns. This study examines how cultural narratives, social norms, and stigma interact to affect help-seeking behavior in this sociocultural setting.
