Introduction: Knockout of the Fmo5 gene in mice led to a lean, slow-ageing phenotype characterised by the presence of 2,3-butanediol isomers in their urine and plasma. Oral treatment of wildtype mice with 2,3-butanediol led to a low cholesterol, low epididymal fat phenotype.

Objectives: Determine if significant, heterozygous coding variations in human FMO5 would give rise to similar clinical and metabolic phenotypes in humans, as in C57BL/6J mice with knockout of the Fmo5 gene and in particular, increased excretion of 2,3-butanediol.

Flumioxazin-based herbicides are frequently used in agriculture to control broadleaf weeds attributed to their high efficacy, rapid action, and residual soil activity, making these compounds a preferred choice over other herbicides in pre-emergence weed control. Due to their beneficial properties, use of these herbicides has significantly increased in recent years, raising concerns regarding potential environmental risks. This study aimed to examine the effects of a commercial flumioxazin-based formulation on different plant models.

Comparative analysis of colonization and survival strategies of regionally predominant LA-MRSA clones ST398 and ST9.

National Key Laboratory of Veterinary Public Health and Safety, College of Veterinary Medicine, China Agricultural University, Beijing, China.

Livestock-associated methicillin-resistant (LA-MRSA) displays distinct geographical distribution patterns, with ST398 predominating in Europe and ST9 being the dominant lineage in Asia, particularly China. However, the mechanisms underlying these differences remain poorly understood. In this study, we evaluated the cell adhesion capacity, anti-phagocytic properties, and porcine nasal colonization potential of ST9 and ST398 strains isolated from China and Germany.

Acute kidney injury is one of the most severe complications of severe malaria, with an overall incidence reaching 60% and a mortality rate of up to 45%. We conducted this study to determine the prevalence of acute kidney injury in malaria, acute kidney injury, associated factors and the impact of acute kidney injury on vital prognosis. This was a multicenter, retrospective, descriptive, and analytical study over a 5-year period from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2023, in the nephrology and infectious diseases departments and intensive care units of Dakar hospitals.

Purpose: As robotic-assisted unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (RA-UKA) gains popularity, debate continues over its superiority to conventional UKA (C-UKA). Systematic reviews and meta-analyses (SRMAs) have examined this, but concerns exist about spin bias in their abstracts, which can significantly alter perceptions of a treatment's efficacy and safety. This study aims to evaluate the presence of spin bias in the abstracts of SRMAs comparing RA-UKA and C-UKA, and to assess the methodological quality of all included SRMAs using the AMSTAR-2 tool.
