: The relationships between aging, chronic diseases, and obesity remain complex and poorly understood. This study aimed to investigate the impact of comorbidities on premature aging in individuals with severe obesity. : This cross-sectional study included 99 bariatric patients with severe obesity (SG) and 30 healthy volunteers (HC). SG was further divided into subgroups based on comorbidity status. Various markers of biological aging, including interleukin-6 (IL-6), C-reactive protein (CRP), telomere length (TL), attention speed, executive functions, and metabolic age, were evaluated. : Both subgroups of patients with obesity presented elevated levels of IL-6 and CRP, shorter TLs, lower outcomes in executive functioning tests, and greater metabolic age than healthy subjects. However, no significant differences were observed between patients with obesity with and without comorbidities. This study highlighted the impact of BMI on increased inflammation and revealed that hypertension and inflammation are associated with cognitive decline. : These findings suggest that obesity, regardless of comorbidities, contributes to premature aging. The presence of hypertension was linked to cognitive function decline, emphasizing the multifaceted implications of obesity for the aging process.

The long-term mortality consequences for aging veterans remain insufficiently characterized. This study examines the association between military service and mortality outcomes among US adults aged 50 years and older, including all-cause mortality, premature death, and cause-specific mortality.

Randomized controlled trials, meta-analyses, systematic reviews, evidence-based clinical practice guidelines, and selected expert consensus statements and narrative reviews were included.

Introduction: Poor quality of life and psychological stress have been associated with worse clinical outcomes, including anxiety and depression disorders, cardiovascular diseases, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, and premature mortality. Evidence suggested that physically active adults were more likely to report better quality of life and increased capacity to deal with stress, compared to their sedentary peers. This study examines the effects of 16 weeks of combined aerobic and resistance exercise training on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and stress levels in sedentary adults.

Aging is associated with profound changes in cellular function (senescence) and affects various tissues and systems, including the immune system (immunosenescence). Despite the increasing average age of individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS), little is known about what happens to the immune system of aging people with MS or about the impact of immunomodulatory and immunosuppressive treatments for MS on the aging immune system. In this topical review, we discuss the concepts of physiological cellular senescence and immunosenescence, and we review the latest available data on immunosenescence in MS.

The International Transport Forum projected that global demand for transport could triple by 2050, with shipping demand likely increasing even more rapidly. However, most scenarios for the next 20-30 years suggest that current regulatory policies may be insufficient to offset the rise in traffic. Thus, this study evaluates the impacts of shipping emissions on air quality, health, and external costs in the Iberian Peninsula, analysing past (2017), current (2022), and projected future (2050) scenarios.
