Article Abstract

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have emerged as a promising therapeutic approach in the treatment of brain cancer due to their unique biological properties, including their ability to home tumor sites, modulate the tumor microenvironment, and exert anti-tumor effects. This review delves into the molecular mechanisms and pathways underlying MSC-mediated therapy in brain cancer. We explore the various signalling pathways activated by MSCs that contribute to their therapeutic efficacy, such as the PI3K/Akt, Wnt/β-catenin, and Notch pathways. Additionally, we discuss the role of exosomes and microRNAs secreted by MSCs in mediating anti-tumor effects. The review also addresses the challenges and future directions in optimizing MSC-based therapies for brain cancer, including issues related to MSC sourcing, delivery methods, and potential side effects. Through a comprehensive understanding of these mechanisms and pathways, we aim to highlight the potential of MSCs as a viable therapeutic option for brain cancer and to guide future research in this field.

A 71-year-old black male with a history of hypertension, dyslipidemia, type 2 diabetes, history of bladder cancer status-post resection now in remission, history of multiple transient ischemic attacks, and coronary artery disease (CAD) presented with non-exertional substernal chest pain radiating to the left arm, accompanied by shortness of breath and nausea. Initial evaluation revealed elevated troponins and nonspecific electrocardiogram changes, consistent with non-ST elevation myocardial infarction. Coronary angiography demonstrated severe multivessel disease, including critical left main stenosis.

Purpose: Postoperative delirium (POD) remains poorly understood in terms of predictors and underlying mechanisms. This review summarized emerging evidence on the association between brain microstructural alterations and POD.

Method: This is a narrative review, describing the microstructural changes in aging brain, microstructural MRI findings, relationship among microstructural alterations, cognitive reserve and POD, and potential interventions targeting microstructure.

Purpose: Limited data is available assessing sequencing of antibody drug conjugates (ADCs) in patients with hormone receptor-positive (HR +), human epidermal growth factor 2 (HER2)-negative, HER2-low, and triple-negative metastatic breast cancer (MBC), including patients with brain metastases (BrM) or leptomeningeal disease (LMD). This study assesses the efficacy and safety of sequential sacituzumab govitecan (SG) and trastuzumab deruxtecan (T-DXd) in MBC and impact on chemotherapy (CTX).

Methods: This is a single-center, retrospective, cohort study in adult patients with HR + , HER2-negative, or low MBC who received T-DXd and/or SG.

Introduction: This study explores high-impedance surface (HIS) metamaterial shields for enhancing the transmit field in whole-body MRI at 7 T. We studied the possibility of placing a metamaterial layer between the gradient coil and bore liner using electromagnetic simulations to evaluate B and SAR efficiency across different impedances.

Materials And Methods: Simulations were performed in three stages, first metamaterial design and characterization, then single-element dipole simulations with a homogenous phantom, and finally, simulations including a four-element arrays with a virtual body model, including the whole scanner geometry.
