Article Abstract

Adenosine is extensively utilized in myocardial stress perfusion imaging for the detection and risk stratification of coronary artery disease. It has a well-established safety profile. The majority of the undesirable effects experienced during adenosine infusion are transient (owing to its brief half-life of ~10 s) and arise from the stimulation of receptors in the atrio-ventricular (AV) node (AV block) and bronchial smooth muscles (bronchospasm). We hereby report an unusual electrocardiographic finding during adenosine stress perfusion imaging, in a patient who had previously undergone single chamber pacemaker insertion and was referred for the assessment of atypical chest pain.

Organ-on-chip (OOC) technologies, also called microphysiological systems (MPS), offer dynamic microenvironments that improve upon static culture systems, yet widespread adoption has been hindered by fabrication complexity, reliance on polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), and limited modularity. Here, a modular MPS platform is presented, designed for ease of use, reproducibility, and broad applicability. The system comprises layered elastomeric inserts for dual monolayer cell culture, which is clamped within a reusable acrylic cassette for perfusion studies.

Background: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a devastating neurodegenerative disease characterized by oxidative stress and progressive motor neuron degeneration. This study evaluates the potential neuroprotective effects of caffeine in the Wobbler mouse, an established model of ALS.

Methods: Wobbler mice received caffeine supplementation (60 mg/kg/day) via drinking water, and key parameters, including muscle strength, NAD metabolism, oxidative stress, and motor neuron morphology, were assessed at critical disease stages.

Biophysically Constrained Dynamical Modelling of the Brain Using Multimodal Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

We propose a Biophysically Restrained Analog Integrated Neural Network (BRAINN), an analog electrical network that models the dynamics of brain function. The network interconnects analog electrical circuits that simulate two tightly coupled brain processes: (1) propagation of an action potential, and (2) regional cerebral blood flow in response to the metabolic demands of signal propagation. These two processes are modeled by two branches of an electrical circuit comprising a resistor, a capacitor, and an inductor.

Intense hepatobiliary uptake of [Tc]Tc-sestamibi in myocardial perfusion scintigraphy (MPS) often degrades image quality by obscuring the inferior myocardial wall, leading to equivocal studies. While nonpharmacological interventions are inconsistent, the choleretic agent ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) could potentially accelerate hepatic clearance. The effectiveness of a convenient, single-dose UDCA intervention has not been rigorously evaluated.

Intravoxel Incoherent Motion (IVIM) MRI is a contrast-agent-free microvascular imaging method finding increasing use in biomedicine. However, there is uncertainty in the ability of IVIM-MRI to quantify tissue microvasculature given MRI's limited spatial resolution (mm scale). Nine NRG mice were subcutaneously inoculated with human pancreatic cancer BxPC-3 cells transfected with DsRed, and MR-compatible plastic window chambers were surgically installed in the dorsal skinfold.
