Air-conditioning systems, composed mainly of humidity control and heat reallocation units, play a pivotal role in upholding superior air quality and human well-being across diverse environments ranging from international space stations and pharmacies to granaries and cultural relic preservation sites, and to commercial and residential buildings. The adoption of sorbent water as the working pair and low-grade renewable or waste heat in adsorption-driven air-conditioning presents a state-of-the-art solution, notably for its energy efficiency and eco-friendliness vis-à-vis conventional electricity-driven vapor compression cycles. Here, we introduce a rational π-extension strategy to engineer an ultrarobust and highly porous zirconium metal-organic framework (Zr-MOF). This MOF sorbent showcases hysteresis-free S-shaped water sorption isotherms, characterized by a rapid ascent within the 40-60% relative humidity range with a working capacity of 0.63 g g, thus facilitating intelligent indoor humidity regulation. Moreover, we demonstrate, for the first time, that this material with such distinctive isotherms can yield a 10 °C temperature lift between ambient and chiller output with a high cooling capacity of 336 kW h m per cycle, even at exceptionally low driving temperatures (below 50 °C), while also delivering a substantial coefficient of performance of 0.96. This material is amenable to scale-up and is chemically ultrastable that can endure strong acids and be cycled for at least 200 runs without compromising any of its capacity. These exceptional attributes signify the viability of this material as a pragmatic alternative for deployment in energy-efficient desiccant air-conditioning systems, particularly in hot and humid climatic regions.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are distinguished by their structural diversity, tunable electronic properties, and exceptional performance in various applications. Notably, the electron-donating ability of ligands significantly enhances the ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT) processes within these frameworks, thereby promoting efficient charge migration. Herein, we developed two electron-rich macrocyclic ligands derived from phenothiazine- and phenoxazine-functionalized calix[3]arenes, alongside their corresponding cobalt-coordinated MOFs.

Global challenges posed by freshwater scarcity and the water-energy nexus drive demand for novel macromolecular design of tailored nanostructures endowed with a variety of hydrophilic and hydrophobic features. Offering potential to meet this demand, metal-organic framework (MOF) materials are synthesized from coordinated formations that create versatile reticular structures with variable water adsorption affinities. However, advances in the fundamental understanding of water interactions within these structures are impeded by the failure of classical analyses to identify mechanisms of interaction, connect fundamental isotherm types, and provide appropriate benchmarks for assessment.

In this study, a one-pot hydrothermal synthesis method was used to synthesize a novel gold-yttrium trimesic acid metal-organic framework (Au-Y-TMA MOF), demonstrating significant improvements over conventional single-metal MOFs, that is, yttrium trimesic acid (Y-TMA), in both supercapacitor applications and electrochemical antibiotic detection. The X-ray diffraction patterns of Au-Y-TMA confirmed the presence and impact of Au in the Y-TMA matrix, while field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) images revealed a heterogeneous combination of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and Y-TMA, suggesting a nonuniform distribution and possible interaction. The developed half-cell supercapacitor exhibited a remarkable capacitance value of 1836 F/g at a current density of 5 A/g by galvanostatic charging-discharging (GCD) measurement.

In this study, a novel hybrid hydrogel incorporating a scandium-based metal-organic framework (scandium-integrated MOF-hydrogel hybrid) was developed using scandium nitrate, 1,4-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid, oxidized pectin, and chitosan. The synthesized scandium-integrated MOF-hydrogel hybrid demonstrated remarkable dual-functionality in both the adsorption of hazardous dye pollutants and the inhibition of pathogenic bacteria commonly found in wastewater. Characterization of the scandium-integrated MOF-hydrogel hybrid was performed using FT-IR, XRD, SEM, EDAX, CHNO elemental, BET, and XPS analyses, confirming successful MOF integration and a porous, reactive surface.

Diabetic infected wounds represent a formidable clinical challenge characterized by persistent hyperglycemia-induced pathological cascades that disrupt normal healing processes through multiple mechanisms including chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, and microvascular dysfunction. As prototypical chronic wounds, they exhibit severely impaired tissue regeneration due to this multifaceted dysfunction in both skin architecture and biological function. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have emerged as promising next-generation therapeutic platforms owing to their exceptional structural tunability, multifunctional properties, and precise spatiotemporal drug delivery capabilities.
