The effects of cosmic-ray bombardment of chiral molecules in the interstellar medium are simulated in the laboratory by performing radiolysis experiments of pure α-pinene ices at four different temperatures. The identification and significance of α-pinene have not been fully understood because of the insufficient amount of spectral information of these compounds at low temperatures. A comparison of the temperature dependence of the mid-infrared spectra of pure α-pinene ices before and after irradiation its irradiation by 61.3 MeV Kr ions is performed. Mid-infrared Fourier transform (FTIR) spectroscopy was used to follow the changes in the chemicals, which allowed us to characterize the reaction products. This is the first time that the temperature dependence of α-pinene's radiolysis is determined; measurements occurred at 10, 50, 100 and 130 K. The spectra of non-irradiated samples are compared with those of samples irradiated by heavy ions. The new complex organic molecules (COMs) formed by radiolysis at different temperatures are non-chiral and contain up to six carbon atoms (e.g. benzene).

Importance: Head and neck cancer (HNC) and its associated treatments are associated with substantial functional, psychological, and financial consequences. Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) play a crucial role in capturing the full impact of disease. Understanding how PROMs are associated with health care costs is critical for cancer care planning; however, the association of health care expenditure and PROMs is yet to be clarified.

Background: Ensuring equitable healthcare services for persons with dementia is of utmost importance. Recent evidence points to sex-based differences in healthcare use in this population. However, available evidence is based on data from limited geographic regions and predates the COVID-19 pandemic, which is said to have further magnified disparities.

Unlabelled: We examined characteristics of patients in Ontario, Canada, initiating publicly funded zoledronic acid for osteoporosis from 2006 to 2021. Most patients had prior osteoporosis treatments, with those previously using oral bisphosphonates more likely to receive a second dose. Understanding treatment decisions and patient beliefs is key for future research.

Objective: To assess the risks of perinatal emergency department (ED) use, hospitalisation and severe maternal morbidity or mortality (SMM-M) associated with preconception MCC, according to the number of chronic conditions, complex MCC and co-occurring cardiometabolic conditions.
Design: Population-based cohort study.
Setting: Ontario, Canada.
