Unlabelled: We examined characteristics of patients in Ontario, Canada, initiating publicly funded zoledronic acid for osteoporosis from 2006 to 2021. Most patients had prior osteoporosis treatments, with those previously using oral bisphosphonates more likely to receive a second dose. Understanding treatment decisions and patient beliefs is key for future research.

In this paper, we (1) describe our process undertaking a community-engaged Long Covid research study; (2) evaluate our community-engaged approach, highlighting strengths and limitations with our process; and (3) identify recommendations for engaging in community-engaged patient-oriented research in Long Covid.
Methods: Guided by the 4PI (Principles; Purpose; Presence; Process; Impact) Framework and Patient-Led Research Scorecards, we describe our community-engaged approach within the Long COVID and Episodic Disability Study, followed by an evaluation of our community engagement using a multistage consultation with members of the Long COVID and Episodic Disability Study team.
Unlabelled: Bone geometry is thought to be an important factor in the development of atypical femoral fracture. Our three-dimensional analysis of whole-femur geometry indicates that lateral bowing influences fracture location. Lateral bowing may indeed play a role in AFF pathophysiology.

Background: Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP) is an ultra-rare genetic bone disease that is characterized by progressive heterotopic ossification of the thoracic cavity. Prognosis is poor with cardiopulmonary complications being the main cause of death. Spirometry is a well-established metric of functional exercise capacity and prognosis in lung diseases but its use is limited in this population.

Objective: Placement of a dental implant in a patient on antiresorptive therapy has been hypothesized to increase the risk of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) and/or impact implant survival. In patients with osteoporosis, the risk of MRONJ with antiresorptive therapy is only marginally higher than observed in the general population.
Methods: The International ONJ Taskforce conducted a systematic review of the literature and evaluated the outcomes of implant placement in individuals with osteoporosis receiving antiresorptive therapy.
Fractal analysis and ultrasound techniques are pivotal in assessing osteoporosis by examining the complex structure of cancellous bone. Osteoporosis, marked by reduced bone mass and the degradation of bone microarchitecture, results in greater fragility and a higher risk of fractures. The poroelastodynamic model proposed in this study incorporates the Navier-Stokes equations of linear elasticity and Biot's theory of porous media, allowing the investigation of osteoporosis versus fractal dimension.

Introduction: We investigated the prevalence of new or persistent manifestations experienced by COVID-19 survivors at 3 or more months after their initial infection, collectively known as post-COVID-19 condition (PCC).
Methods: We searched four electronic databases and major grey literature resources for prospective studies, systematic reviews, authoritative reports and population surveys. A random-effects meta-analysis pooled the prevalence data of 22 symptoms and outcomes.
Study DesignBiomechanical modeling study.ObjectivesDespite several recognized risk factors for proximal junctional kyphosis (PJK), its causative mechanism remains unknown. There are limited biomechanical studies to elucidate the association of sagittal alignment with PJK.

The Episodic Disability Framework (EDF), derived from perspectives of adults living with HIV, characterizes the multi-dimensional and episodic nature of health-related challenges (disability) experienced by an individual. Our aim was to determine the applicability of the Episodic Disability Framework to conceptualize the health-related challenges experienced among adults living with Long COVID.

Objective: To compare health service use within 12 months following hospitalization for COVID-19 among people with and without pre-existing disabilities, and to determine the extent to which such use is related to disability and other risk factors.

Bone health after lung transplantation has not been comprehensively reviewed in over 2 decades. This narrative review summarizes the available literature on bone health in the context of lung transplantation, including epidemiology, presentation, and postoperative management. Osteoporosis is reported in approximately 30% to 50% of lung transplant candidates, largely due to disease-related impact on bone and lifestyle, and corticosteroid-related effects during end-stage lung disease (interstitial lung diseases, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and historically cystic fibrosis).

Methods: In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we searched Medline, EMBASE, CINHAL, PubMed and CENTRAL from inception until June 14th, 2024, for observational studies that measured the prevalence of Long COVID in adults living with HIV and the odds of developing Long COVID following a SARS-CoV-2 infection in people living with HIV compared to people living without HIV. Reviews, case reports, randomised control trials and editorials were excluded.
Frailty and myosteatosis are each prognostic of all-cause mortality (ACM) in patients with cancer. However, it is unclear whether myosteatosis adds value to frailty for predicting ACM. We assessed whether myosteatosis improves the predictive ability of frailty for ACM in older adults undergoing chemotherapy.

Early identification is crucial because it allows early intervention to stop the progression to complete fracture, thus potentially reducing the ensuing burden. It has been shown that extending the scan image to take a full-length image of the femur (FFI) using single energy (SE) X-rays at the time of a dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scan can detect findings in the spectrum of AFF.

Background: A subset of individuals (10-20%) experience post-COVID condition (PCC) subsequent to initial SARS-CoV-2 infection, which lacks effective treatment. PCC carries a substantial global burden associated with negative economic and health impacts. This study aims to evaluate the association between plasma taurine levels with self-reported symptoms and adverse clinical outcomes in patients with PCC.

Methods: Retrospective population-based cohort study leveraging health administrative databases from Ontario, Canada. Individuals aged 40-105 years with hip fracture surgery between April 1, 2009 and March 31, 2019 were included.
Timely administration of denosumab every 6 mo is critical in osteoporosis treatment to avoid multiple vertebral fracture risk upon denosumab discontinuation or delay. This study aimed to estimate the immediate and prolonged impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the timing of denosumab doses. We identified older adults (≥66 yr) residing in the community who were due to receive denosumab between January 2016 and December 2020 using Ontario Drug Benefit data.
