Background: Inflammation impacts the prognosis of numerous types of tumors. Inflammatory indicators such as the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio, and neutrophil-to-eosinophil ratio (NER) have emerged as potential prognostic markers and are closely correlated with the outcomes of cancer patients. However, the connection between NER and cancer prognosis remains incompletely understood.

This systematic review examines the prognostic value of baseline optical coherence tomography (OCT) biomarkers in predicting visual acuity (VA) outcomes for eyes with macular edema secondary to retinal vein occlusions (RVO) treated with anti-VEGF therapies, steroids, laser photocoagulation, or combination treatments. VA predictions at 6, 12, and 24 months post-treatment were assessed using a narrative synthesis approach and vote counting based on effect direction relative to a minimal clinically important difference. Certainty of evidence was evaluated using GRADE guidelines.

Background: Studies on the interaction of cancer cells with other cells (fibroblasts, endothelial cells, and immune cells) of the tumor microenvironment (TME) have led to the development of many novel targeted therapies. More recently, the notion that neuronal cells of the TME could impact various processes supporting cancer progression has gained momentum. Tumor-associated neurons release neurotransmitters into the TME that, in turn, bind to specific receptors on different target cells, supporting cancer progression.

Background: The extent of primary hepatectomy for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) may influence long-term outcomes, especially at recurrence. We investigated whether initial minor or major hepatectomy impacts retreatment options and survival following recurrence.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed patients with primary HCC who underwent either initial major or minor hepatectomy.

Objectives: Contrast extravasation on imaging studies is a clinical surrogate for bleeding severity. However, the prognostic relevance of this imaging sign needs to be evaluated. The aim of this study was to analyze the impact of contrast extravasation defined by computed tomography (CT) and angiography on massive transfusion and 30-day mortality in patients with acute bleeding undergoing transarterial embolization (TAE).
