Objectives: Contrast extravasation on imaging studies is a clinical surrogate for bleeding severity. However, the prognostic relevance of this imaging sign needs to be evaluated. The aim of this study was to analyze the impact of contrast extravasation defined by computed tomography (CT) and angiography on massive transfusion and 30-day mortality in patients with acute bleeding undergoing transarterial embolization (TAE).

Previous studies have shown promising prognostic value for several tumour entities, including esophageal cancer (EC). The aim of this study was to analyse possible associations of body composition parameters in patients with esophageal cancer undergoing curative treatment.

The vagal nerve regulates many internal organs and is at risk during surgeries, potentially leading to severe complications. While different types of intraoperative neuromonitoring methods exist for functional assessment, Hyperspectral Imaging (HSI) offers a non-invasive, real-time alternative for morphologic identification.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTreatment of rectal cancer is multimodal and based on tumour stage and location, as well as morphological and biological risk factors - using surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy. In a large number of cases, there are several treatment options, some of which can cause similar and some of which can cause different functional limitations. Comparisons of functional outcomes between different treatment modalities are currently limited.

The present analysis investigated the diagnostic benefit of computed tomography (CT)-derived texture analysis to categorize and stage lymph nodes in patients with colon cancer.
Methods: In this study, 85 patients were included ( = 39 females, 45.
Purpose: The pharmacokinetic properties of peroral drugs, e.g. considering dissolution, release and absorption, can be influenced by a shortened transit time after ostomy placement.

Most patients with advanced PM receive palliative therapy to maintain their quality of life. In our current study, we investigated whether patient-specific 3D-tissue slices from patients with PM subjected to pressurized intraperitoneal aerosol chemotherapy could be cultured .

There is a significant lack of knowledge regarding disease-specific aspects of guiding IBD patients through conception, pregnancy, and delivery in clinical routine.
Summary: Patients with IBD often remain voluntarily childless, primarily due to a lack of knowledge.
Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) during pregnancy can be a challenging situation due to the spatial confinement of the tumor with the growing uterus carrying the fetus. It is one of the more common tumor entities occurring in pregnant women, and therefore, it has to be taken into account if "patients describe suspicious" symptoms.
Summary: Diagnosis and treatment are complex and require a specialized multidisciplinary team of visceral oncologists with expertise in colorectal surgery, gastrointestinal oncologists, gynecologists, obstetricians, and neonatologists to coordinate the optimal treatment plan with the patient.
Background: The present case of a colorectal adenocarcinoma at the anastomotic site of a colorectal anastomosis after childhood surgery for Hirschsprung disease is a rare report of such pathology. Possibly, the altered anatomy after Duhamel procedure may pose a risk for carcinogenesis in those patients. The previously surgically opened plane of the mesorectal fascia, which is usually dissected during total mesorectal excision in rectal cancer, and the impossibility to differentiate from colon or rectal cancer in this case influence oncologic treatment strategies.

Several underlying risk factors exist and have been characterized previously. Those risk factors consist of surgical and medical factors.

Objective And Background: Hyperspectral imaging (HSI) is an innovative, noninvasive technique that assesses tissue and organ perfusion and oxygenation. This study aimed to evaluate HSI as a predictive tool for early postoperative graft function and long-term outcomes in living donor (LD) and deceased donor (DD) kidney transplantation (KT).
Patients And Methods: HSI of kidney allograft parenchyma from 19 LD and 51 DD kidneys was obtained intraoperatively 15 minutes after reperfusion.
Aim Of The Study: Over the past few years, diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) has become an increasingly important diagnostic tool in the diagnosis of liver lesions. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the diagnostic benefit of high b-value computed diffusion-weighted imaging (c-DWI) compared with standard DWI in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and whether there is an association with microvascular invasion (MVI).
Material And Methods: In total, 37 patients with histopathologically confirmed HCC were retrospectively ana-lyzed.
Objectives: Body composition assessment includes the parameter skeletal muscle mass, subcutaneous and visceral adipose tissue (SAT and VAT). The purpose of this study was to elucidate associations of body composition parameters with mortality in patients with acute bleeding undergoing transarterial embolization (TAE).
Methods: A mixed cohort of patients from 2018 to 2022 with acute bleeding requiring treatment with a TAE was retrospectively evaluated.
Background: Lymphadenectomy for rectal cancer is clearly defined by total mesorectal excision (TME). The analogous surgical strategy for the colon, the complete mesocolic excision (CME), follows the same principles of dissection in embryologically predefined planes.
Method: This narrative review initially identified key issues related to lymphadenectomy of rectal and colon cancer.
Background/aim: The recently published Node-Reporting and Data System (Node-RADS) can aid the characterization of lymph nodes in cross-sectional imaging. This study investigated the Node-RADS system in computed tomography (CT) to characterize lymph nodes in esophageal cancer.
Patients And Methods: Overall, 126 patients (15 female, 11.
Background: Texture analysis derived from computed tomography (CT) may provide clinically relevant imaging biomarkers associated with tumor histopathology. Perihilar cholangiocarcinoma is a malignant disease with an overall poor prognosis.
Aims: The present study sought to elucidate possible associations between texture features derived from CT images with grading, tumor markers, and survival in extrahepatic, perihilar cholangiocarcinomas tumors.

Background: Complications are common after major visceral surgery. Besides the patients, also surgeons may experience negative feelings by the patients suffering. Some studies have evaluated the mental burden caused by complications, mainly focusing on residents in different surgical specialties.

Purpose: Contrast enhancement of the adrenal gland defined by computed tomography (CT) was previously analyzed as a prognostic factor for critically ill patients in various diseases. However, no study investigated this quantitative parameter in patients with acute mesenteric ischemia. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the prognostic value of the contrast enhancement of the adrenal glands in patients with clinically suspected AMI.
