Article Abstract

The trigonal planar unit possesses significant hyperpolarizability and polarizability anisotropy, which makes it useful for optimizing nonlinear optical (NLO) materials, however, chalcogenide with this unit has seldom been reported. In this work, a novel approach is introduced by integrating the unprecedented trigonal planar MS (M = Cd/In, Hg/In) motifs into the nearly optically isotropic tetrahedral units, resulting in two novel chalcogenides CsMInS (M = Cd/In, 1; Hg/In, 2). Notably, structures 1 and 2 feature nearly planar triangular units at the center, encircled by three trimers, further interconnecting each other to create 3D frameworks. Importantly, phases 1 and 2 display phase-matching (PM) capabilities, primarily attributed to incorporating trigonal planar MS units that additionally enhance polarizability anisotropy. Furthermore, compounds 1 and 2 demonstrate moderate second-harmonic generation (SHG) signals (0.70 and 0.84 × AgGaS2@1.7 µm). This study pioneers an efficient strategy for the design of infrared NLO crystals with PM capabilities.

The title compound, di-μ-hydroxido-bis-[iodido-diphenyl-tin(IV)]-1,3-di-methyl-imidazolidin-2-one (1/2), [Sn(CH)I(OH)]·2CHNO, represents only the second example in the dimeric diorganotin(IV)-hydroxide-halide solvates [ Sn(OH)]·2 with = I. As is usual for this class of compound, dimerization takes place the oxygen atoms of the hydroxyl groups and leads to a planar, centrosymmetric, four-membered Sn-O ring of rhomboidal shape whose Sn-O distances [2.024 (2)/2.

Hexakis(neopentyl)diruthenium(III,III) [Ru(CHCMe) or RuNp], first synthesized in 1984, is a analogue of the classic MX Chisholm-type, unsupported metal-metal triply-bonded Group 6 complexes. We report an alternative synthetic route to RuNp and an updated low-temperature crystal structure. The Ru-Ru bond length (2.

Unleashing phosphorus mononitride.

Nat Commun

Department of Chemistry, Centre for Analysis and Synthesis, Lund University, 22100, Lund, Sweden.

The interstellar diatomic molecule, phosphorus mononitride (P≡N), is highly unstable under conditions typical on Earth, and its utility for constructing elusive P-N π-bonded motifs has remained uncertain. Here, we show how Na(OCP) transfers a P atom to an electrophilic osmium nitride complex to form a metal-bound P≡N ligand. Quantum chemical calculations and X-ray absorption spectroscopy unveil a cumulenic [Os=N=P] electronic structure comprising orthogonal Os=N and N=P π-bonding.

Three-coordinate, paramagnetic Cr complexes of type [Cr(amido)Bn(NHC)], NHC = N, N'-bis-(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)-imidazol-2-ylidene (IMes); N, N'-bis-(2,6-di-isopropylphenyl)-imidazol(in)-2-ylidene, (S)IDiPP; N, N'-bis-(2,6-di-isopropylphenyl)-imidazol-4-ylidene, (aIDiPP); amido = N(SiMe), NH(DiPP); Bn = benzyl, n = 2, m = 0; n = 1, m = 1, were prepared by substitution or aminolysis and thermolysis methods from [Cr{N(SiMe)}(THF)] or [CrBn((S)IDiPP)], respectively. Depending on the nature of the NHC and the amido ligands, different geometries at Cr (ranging from distorted trigonal planar, to extended Y-, compressed Y-, and distorted T-shaped) and conformations, were observed. HFEPR spectroscopy was employed to accurately determine spin Hamiltonian parameters, consisting of zero-field splitting (axial D and rhombic E components) and g-values, of five S = 2 complexes exhibiting D and E/D in the range from -2.

CuH-catalyzed olefin hydrogenation is rare compared to those of carbonyl-derived substrates. Olefin insertion into Cu-H to form Cu-alkyl is ubiquitous; however, subsequent H activation remains unknown to our knowledge. Herein, we investigated the transformations of β-H elimination, H cleavage, and catalytic olefin hydrogenation in a series of linear and trigonal planar Cu(I)-alkyl complexes supported by monodentate N-heterocyclic carbene and bidentate naphthyridine-bis(carbene) ligands, respectively.
