To evaluate the accuracy and reproducibility of measurements obtained using the Bellus3D Face Application on a mobile smartphone by comparing them to direct measurements on pre-marked and blank face scans. Twenty-five healthy young adults (six males and nineteen females; age range 20-30 years) were included in this prospective cross-sectional study, with the only exclusion criterion being the presence of significant facial hair interfering with the placement and visualization of landmarks. Image acquisitions were performed using an iPhone XR with the Bellus3D FaceApp face scanning application, an iOS application for smartphones. Ten single midfacial and five paired bilateral landmarks were defined and marked. Two face scans were performed on each patient, both on blank and marked faces, and distances were measured directly with calipers and digitally. The random error values were 1.0 mm and 0.4 mm for the manual point placement and measurements and virtual point placement on blank faces, respectively. The two methods used (the direct method and acquisition on faces with landmarks) demonstrate relatively similar reliability (ICC > 0.8); however, a paired -test showed that the differences between several measurements were statistically significant ( < 0.05). Regardless of the method used, there was a systematic error for various values that included the nose and mouth ( < 0.05). The measurements demonstrating the most significant differences between the methods were those that included the tip of the nose, with the mean differences being -4.4-3.3 mm. The measurements of the distances that estimate face "depth" showed the greatest consistency irrespective of the tested method ( > 0.05 and ICC > 0.8). The use of the Bellus3D FaceApp is precise and reproducible for certain areas of the face, but digital reconstruction errors prohibit, for the time being, the use of this technology in everyday clinical practice. The noted discrepancies were consistent and more prevalent for specific areas such as the tip of the nose. Further investigations are required to determine other sources of error and for other smartphone-based applications released for 3D face image acquisitions.

BackgroundCoronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has led to dramatic changes including social distancing, closure of schools, travel bans, and issues of stay-at-home orders. The health-care field has been transformed with elective procedures and on-site visits being deferred. Telemedicine has emerged as a novel mechanism to continue to provide care.

When treatments are deemed not to be cost-effective and face non-reimbursement, policymakers in publicly funded healthcare systems may decide to ration treatments by withholding it from future patients. However, they must also address a critical question: should they also ration treatments by withdrawing it from patients already having access to the treatment, or is there an ethical difference between withdrawing and withholding treatments? To explore this question, we conducted a behavioural experiment (n=1404), examining public support for withdrawing and withholding treatments in reimbursement decisions across eleven different circumstances. Overall, public support for rationing by withdrawing and withholding was low, with no general perceived difference between withdrawing and withholding treatments.

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) therapies have demonstrated remarkable clinical efficacy in hematological malignancies, validating their therapeutic potential. However, challenges such as therapeutic resistance and limited accessibility hinder their broader application. To overcome these limitations, alternative CAR-based cell therapies, including CAR-Natural Killer (CAR-NK), CAR-macrophage (CAR-M), and CAR-dendritic cell (CAR-DC) therapies, have been proposed.

Purpose: The study aimed to assess the interconnection of quality of life (QoL) variables and identify key areas for which interventions could improve QoL among men who have sex with men (MSM) living with HIV on antiretroviral therapy (ART).
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Jinan of Shandong Province, between October to December 2020. Undirected network analyses were conducted to examine and visualize the interconnections between QoL variables among MSM living with HIV.

Recent studies in biology and ecology show striking convergences with process philosophy (PP). Biologists today are debating the real nature of evolution and of life itself, which is increasingly considered as a set of interrelated processes rather than a set of tangible species and material lineages. This perspective of focusing on changes can also be found with ecologists and environmental ethicists, whose studies feed into as well as draw on PP principles.
