Glufosinate is a crucial nonselective herbicide used in both conventional and transgenic cropping systems. Its effectiveness is increasingly compromised by resistant weed species like (L.) Gaertn.

Medikus, a pervasive weed infesting transgenic corn fields, exhibits increasing tolerance to glufosinate ammonium-a widely used herbicide in genetically modified cropping systems. This study employed a widely targeted metabolomics approach to investigate differential metabolic responses to glufosinate ammonium across two populations under identical treatments. A total of 2546 metabolites were detected, predominantly classified into alkaloids, amino acids and derivatives, and flavonoids, among other categories.

Plant virus-based vectors provide a convenient tool for rapid protein expression and gene function studies. However, there is little research on viral vectors capable of systemically expressing proteins in tomatoes. Here, we substituted the coat protein (CP) gene with GFP gene in a previously constructed tomato mottle mosaic virus (ToMMV; genus Tobamovirus) infectious clone pCBToMMV to produce transiently expressing vectors, which could express GFP in the infiltrated leaves of Nicotiana benthamiana plants.

Some herbicide-resistant weeds become resistant by generating additional copies of specific loci. For example, amplification of the locus encoding chloroplastic glutamine synthetase (GS2) produces herbicide resistance in the glufosinate-resistant Palmer amaranth (Amaranthus palmeri) accession MSR2. Previously, overamplification of the glyphosate-resistant gene encoding 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase (EPSPS) in Palmer amaranth was determined to be driven by an extrachromosomal circular DNA (eccDNA).

Soybeans provide a nutritionally complete plant-based protein, containing all nine essential amino acids and bioactive compounds. The food safety of a novel triple-stacked genetically modified (GM) soybean, DBN9004 × DBN8002 × DBN8205 was evaluated in a 90-day rat feeding study. The GM soybean, developed through conventional hybridization of three GM lines (DBN9004, DBN8002 and DBN8205), incorporates genes conferring resistance to glyphosate (epsps), glufosinate (pat), and lepidopteran pests (cry1Ac, cry2Ab2, and mVip3Aa).
